Yeah, I was thinking at the field I'm a member at which is the field right off of Slaughter. I think it would be cool to get a pretty good group of heli flyers there some weekend.

I had a feeling that was where you were thinking about. The only problem I see is that club has a reputation for being not very friendly to newcomers. Not so much pure RC newbies, but to experienced RC folks that are new to the club.

I could tell you a couple of stories, but I don't think it is really appropriate since I have no verification of the truthfulness of the stories.

Perhaps you could shed some light on this subject?

Well, I did have a "run in" with the President of the club, he won't speak to me anymore but know what?? I don't care, I'm a member there too and I have just as many rights as they do. They "pretty much" leave me alone now. The recent battle with me has opened their eyes somewhat and they are trying to change for the better and become more heli friendly.

I'm up north, and have to work this week. I don't think I can make it down there. I'll probably be free this weekend though.

I just sent in my AMA dues, haven't been a member for 14 years. Let me know if that'll be a problem?

Jess,
There are a couple of us that usually meet and fly at the field off of Slaughter on Sundays, usually around 5pm or so. Your welcome to come if you like. Hope to meet you soon!

There are a few of us that meet up at the closed down Target off of 183 and Pecan Park. We're there pretty much every weekend at least one of the days. I think I've met you (or possibly another Jess) that flys up there, you don't happen to have a logo or 2 do you?

Hey Jared, yeah that's me with the orange logo 10. I just got a 6s emoli for it, man it's a hoot. Building a second one now with a neu 1910/1y for 6s-8s. It should be a rocket. Drop me a line if you head out there.

SubSailor, thanks for the invite. I'll see if I can't make it this weekend.

July 15th Mini FunFly planned

Where you might ask????

Well in south Austin at the Hill country aeromodelors club.

The planns are meet around 10 am and fly ALL day. Hopefully there will be a good turn out and lots of great flying. Every one in central Texas is invited (or further out if you want to come)for a fun filled day. This is informal and just a get together but dont be shy about attending.

For more info you can contact Sub Sailor (John) or Javier (defiant) here on RR. This was there idea and they are organizing it and I think its a great ideal for us ALL to come together again to tear up the sky's over Austin.

Edited

This is a AMA field and you MUST have a current AMA card to fly.

Make darn sure you all bring your AMA cards with ya. I'll be on channel 20 so I will claim it now. I also have channel 53 for backup if needed.

See Ya'll there!

This is going to be great! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and seeing your birds and of course seeing them fly. I am just now doing FFF, no stunts yet, well I did do a loop and a flip but just about crapped my pants so uhhhm I'll be taking it easy that day.

I wanted to say a few things about the field, I know some of you have heard some nasty rumours about this field and some of them may be true. BUT, there are about 6-8 heli flyers at this field already(and they will be there) and like it or not these guys(plankers) are learning the hard way that we are not going anywhere. There will always be the "ass" in any group but who cares?? I have just taken the attitude of "I'm a member of this field, I pay my dues like anyone else and I have just as much right as they do to be here" and it's working, or I hope it is anyway. I don't want to scare any of you off, they are nice there, I'm just saying don't let the rumours you may have heard deter you from showing up. I have already gotten several pm's asking for directions etc. so it looks like there is going to be a few of us. It's going to be a great time with tons of heli flying so grab your gear and show up!

Can't wait,
John

PS-When you pull into the parking lot we will be down at the south end of the field, on the other side of the building. Just turn right into the parking lot and follow it down, you'll see us. Here's a link to the field: http://www.hcamonline.org/

Hey John yesterday was a lot of fun. Thanks for the invite. Very nice field! Except for that one guy who was grumpy about the frequency baton, everyone was pretty cool. That's the first time in 14 years I've flown at an AMA field. The camaraderie of the heli fliers has been a big bonus. I'm bummed out that I can't make next weekend.

I think those guys can be turned onto accepting the heli group pretty easy. Except for that one guy shooting touch and goes, nobody flies the "pattern". Aslong as you aren't hovering/flipping in front of the other pilots, it shouldn't be a concern. I think that gentleman should have encouraged his son/grandson to find who had the frequency baton instead of sitting over there and getting frustrated about it.

Anyway, I think ya'll will have a blast this weekend.

Thanks john for the reassurance, I'm sure all will go well, and the day will be full of great flying!

One thing Guy's,
Just a heads up......
Saturday morning is the clubs clean-up day. its from 8:00am to 11:00am.

We are planning to get there sometime between 10:00-10:30, so that should'nt be a issue. For those who want to show-up a little early and help them out...feel free, but John and I talked and there's no obligation to show up early and help. they may even be done by the time we get there.

I have recieved a good response from the mass-P.M I sent, so it looks like we're in for a good time flying with old friends....and new ones
And thats what this hobby is all about....

I hope to see ya'll there.

I'll probably be there...my 700 crapped out in the rappy, so I'm putting my 770 from the Rexy in there for the time being. I should be out there if everything goes well
