Well guys, I am about to write the VOY E off for good. I have asked before but I will give it one last shot before I either throw it in the garbage or sell it. I went ahead and ordered a QJ-8 Expert to replace this thorn in my side already so it is just a matter of days before I smash this thing to pieces!!!

Here is my setup:

QJ-15 HEAD
Astro motor
KNS Bearings and a little bling

The problem: at low RPM (on spool up or down) the head develops a sick wobble. It is especially bad in a certail low rpm range.

This happens with or without blades, flybar, tail, etc... basically a drive train and a main shaft with a head block on it. It is not as bad if I lift the heli off the ground by hand but still there. With blades on it does a dance and in the air I have a bad vibration.

Here is what I have replaced: 3 main shafts, bearings, gears, spindle. I am now thinking (hoping) I have a tweaked head block. Again... with just the motor, gears, shaft, and headblock I get the vibe.

ANY suggestion? Anyone looking for a VE cheap?

Ve wobble

I also experienced inconsistent and at times extreme wobble with my Ve. What I attribute the wobble to is two things;
- the main frames lack rigidity between the upper and lower main spindle blocks, and
- the lack of rigidity in the frame structure is the result of a failure of the ladder design to resist a vibration couple that develops between the main spindle blocks. What is happening is that the top half and the bottom half of the heli begin to oscillate out of phase.

What I found to be effective to prevent the oscillation(the wobble) from developing was to through-bolt all of the bearing blocks in the heli. This will substantially stiffen the structure.

And I also found that a custom steel main shaft significantly reduced the rotor head RPM's at which the couple developed.

In my journey with the Ve, it became apparent that changing the head was not the solution to the wobble problem, but because the different head was less prone to vibration, the onset of the wobble was less likely. I think that you have come to the same conclusion.

Hope this helps,

Allan

You might well be on to something there antigrav. I flew a carbon frame on my VE from Day 1 and never experienced the wobble described here. I've had vibes, I've had the low speed wobble but never one like the one described. For what it's worth, mine has flown wobble free with the stock motor and 8 cells, an Astro 803 on 8 cells and a Hacker C40-8L on 3s LiPO but in all cases with a CF frame.
