Bergen R/C Helicopters > Head speed question

Being a relative newcomer to this lark I read a lot of info, especially here, to gain ground.
I see a lot of talk relating to head speed. I understand the principles at work there, especially when they relate to 3d helicopters where the motor needs to be running well inside it's power band.

What about the Observer-EB though? What should I be looking at here and under what circumstances should i be altering it?

I suppose you guys use Tachometers for this, but which sort? The type that lives on the frame permanently or the hand held variety which you have to risk life and limb to use?

Thanks
Marcus
