I just got my century bell 222 60 size kit and xcell mechanics. I have some questions.
This is my first scale project so please excuse me for the stupid questions.

What do you use to glue the wood into the fusulage? shoe goo, epoxy, CA?????

What do you use for the body to fill inperfections like seam line and small flaws?

Also the top holes in the canopy i am assuming they are for cooling. I saw somewhere that someone used screen or something to cover them from the inside. Mine has stickers, but the canopy already has the holes cut out and wanted to find a way to cover them.

Thanks for the help.

I just started using some stuff called hysol from loctite, the jet guys use it. You get this applicator gun and the epoxy mixes inside these nozzles. The epoxy takes overnight to dry, it dries very hard and strong. It takes a while to sand so I use it inside the fuse only. The applicator makes it really easy to apply.

you can get the epoxy and applicator, as well as nozzles from bvm jets (overpriced). turbine central, and you can get other flavors of the epoxy other than 9462 at mcmaster.com. BVM aeropoxy I have been told is the same as hysol 9462. I have both and I cannot tell a difference.

Sandy at v-east has put an excellent resource for tips on his webpage at v-eastonline.com/tips.html

There is a section specifically devoted to gluing wood to glass.

On my wood I use epoxy resin and coat the wood, sand with 220 and coat again. I then glue the joints with 15 or 30 minute epoxy. Where the wood touches the fuse I use the epoxy resin and thin glass cloth to adhere it to the body.

Sandy at V-East said that he has started using a CA that's made for wood to join his parts. I believe he said it impregnates the wood as well as adhering it together and then follows up with a thicker CA to make the joints stronger. I don't remember how he fuel proofs it though.

For vent openings I use the black PVC mesh from Vario. You can tack it in place by using CA and hitting it with kicker and then come back and brush on some epoxy to hold it permantly.

On the body seam I first sand it with 220 grit paper to get as much of it out as I can. Then I use a red body filler called Glazing and spot filler putty found at most automotive stores. The only draw back to it I've noticed is that you have to use grey primer or a few coats of white primer to keep the color of it from bleeding through. I believe there is a white putty but I haven't found one l like as much as the red stuff. Anyway............. after the putty dries I again sand it with 220 paper.

Before I work on the seam though I sand the entire body with 220 dry to scuff up the surface so the primer adheres well. In curves that are hard to reach with paper on my fingers I use maroon scotch brite. It follows contours very well.
