I hope this help clarify some of the mysteries in the terminology.


A HIGH-TURN motor:

=> has MORE TORQUE and LOWER Kv (spins slower)
=> draws LESS CURRENT at a "given" voltage. (runs cooler)
=> spins a LARGER propeller SLOWER for the same voltage.


A LOW-TURN motor:

=> has LESS TORQUE and HIGHER Kv (spins faster)
=> draws MORE CURRENT at the same "given" voltage. (runs hotter)
=> spins a SMALLER propeller FASTER for the same voltage.

actually it might end up propogating some other myths.

as an addendum to what you've written:

a low turn motor
has less resistance than a high turn motor
is more efficient than a high turn
will produce the same RPM for less Volts than a high turn motor


I think the torque issue is more to do with number of poles, which generally determines/influences the number of winds(turns).

In theory if you multiply the KV of a motor by KT (it's torque constant) you will always get the same number for any motor. So as KV increases, KT always decreases (and vice versa). The number of poles only affects KT indirectly, because high pole count motors tend to have low KVs (although some of the small Align motors have a lot of poles and relataively high KVs).

I have a 25 amp esc. I'm going to buy an AXI 2217 series motor for a plank, I know it's the right size. Do I buy the one that's supposed to use an 18 amp esc or a 30 amp esc? I know either the motor has to be too big for the esc or the esc has to be too big for the motor. I'm pretty sure that the esc has to be bigger, but do I have to mess with the throttle settings on my tx? The esc has a safety that requires me to give it zero throttle, 100% throttle, and zero again. If I have to limit the esc with the tx, it won't arm. Please help me.
