A local guy bought a Raptor 50 size for 150 bucks complete with Tx even.

Decided to swap Tx's and sold the one that came with it.

Doing some tuning, he started the heli.

At full throttle no less due to servo being backwards,,,,,,,,,gave full throttle to slow the engine and this gave the swash full collective.

As the engine spooled down, the heli lifted about 6 feet missing him as he fell back.

Heli crashed a bit as it settled back down.

A local guy got it to a hover at a recent RC Profile Brothers fly-in at my airport.

Glad to see it fly but sure was the hard way to do it.

Another guy did something similar but did get chewed on a bit. Don't know the details but he had RC experience, just not with a large glow heli.

Reminds me of a doctor friend who was working the ER when two guys came in with bloody fingers. Seems they were a bit drunk and were trying to 'mow' the hedgerow by holding the lawn mower above it.

Didn't go as planned,,,,,,,,,,,,,

the Trex 600 is going to be any bigger safety hazzard than any other big e-heli,

I agree...

or indeed that 600 owners are going to be any less responsible.

I disagree to a certain point. Sure, some 600 owners will be responsible, but some of the guys that are coming up from a 450 (thats all they've known) will be less responsible.

If I see someone, I dont care who it is. It could be Alan Szabo. I will call the police and try to get you on a reckless endangerment charge if I ever see someone flying in my neighborhood around cars and houses. I dont care if there is anyone on the street or not.

Life is cheap there. They have an over crowding problem as it is. If a run away heli takes out a few bystanders, it really doesnt matter.

I dont know if you know what your talking about. Japan is one of the Most expensive countries to live in.

Reason their Flying their 50 size e heli in front of their houses or some flat ground. etc... is bcoz their not lucky they dont have Big lands like we have here in the states.

I lived in Japan for 4 years. And That country is expensive as hell. Your average salary here in the US $2000 month. You wont even survive in Tokyo.

ok...

He only hovers it... and I know he knows what hes doing.

What is wrong with these people ? The amount of negligence just boggles my mind.

What happens when it goes out of control due to a glitch or loss of signal ?

I'll tell you what happens. Same sh*t that happened to my neighbors 04 Subaru when the Raptor 'hovering' in the owner's driveway lost control and slammed into the Subaru. Two insurance companies and a lot of yelling was had then.

If I loose control of my 450 Rex in my driveway and it shoots off and hits a car, what's it going to do ? whop-whop and some scrapes. What happens when a 50-sized heli does the same ? It looks like two car accident. Nevermind if that were a person standing there or a paper delivery boy or someone sweeping the sidewalk.

You get my point ?

It is NOT as safe as you make it because anything can happen at anytime that is out of your control (pilot) which can happen anywhere.

So...

Do not fly the Rex600 or even hover it in your driveway if you have any respect for the safety of the property/people around you.

Steph, I'm looking forward to the build. That bare canopy sitting in the box looks mean and begs for a hard flight.

Ok - Enough about where folks will fly a 600 Heli :-)

Perhaps its time to get beyond where folks are going to fly this thing and focus on -

HOW THE STOCK SETUP WORKS( Kit - with Align motor, esc and 6S battery). It looks like the shops who got the 600 in only got the full package so this may be the only way to buy a 600 in the very beginning. I ordered 2 of the Carbon kit's w/no motor or esc but if the combo works for folks I would be tempted to change my order to 1 of the combo's. I know I'm making quite a leap on this... but I am very happy with my all stock SE setup and hope they applied much of what they learned with the 450 to the 600.

No its not enough.

Let say you have a MA ION x or Trex600. And you finally build it. you want to test that damm thing. You going to drive 30 mins or go to nearest AMA or park just to Test it? or hover it?

ME? heck NO!

Like I said it all depends... Yeah My Neighbor Fly his ION X.. but not 3D. I mean.. If I see himn doing 3D infront of my car.. ffs.. thats a Different ball game. But I aint calling the cops on him...

lol...

Theres diff types of real life personallity
some of them are

People who works by the book.
And people who works the book.

I mean... I will definitely use my front lawn or Front garage to trim or twick whatever is neccessary to Fly my 600 at its best. But im not going 3D crazy on it!!! ( Coz my front lawn or garage aint that small )

Plus... if you have a small house.. DUH.. find a bigger place.
dont be exagerated...

It all depends...

By the way. just following on the original post here.

I already have
V blades 600mm = 3 of them
V paddle
Green paddle from TT
GY611
Digital Servos for Cylic

Ordered some parts.

And still waiting for that dammm Shipment to come in.

Surly the worst time to fly in a restricter and populated place is when the heli is new and not trimmed out. Bad enough when you know it flys ok, not when it not been flown.
If you kid got hurt by someone testing thier heli in the front or back yard, i bet you would not be so easy to forgive.
Lets use some brains.
I you cant drive for 30 mins to fly at a field etc, you probably dont have enough time to build or maintain your heli correctly either.

some who reply on my post.. Do you guys see the " It all depends" Part?

pauchelle I think what the guys are getting at here is that it does NOT just depend! No matter how good a flyer, no matter how well setup the heli, things can and do go wrong. If you fly in a public area where people, animals & property are quite likely and legally expected to be you are asking for potential trouble!

Now all that being said I doubt there are any heli owners who are living in a home with a reasonable sized backyard that have not hovered their machine, either just for check-out, trimming or practice. Is it 100% safe to do so, surely not but like many things in life its a calculated risk!
