Ok guys/gals, out of curiosity, how many of you pinch, thumb or a combination of the 2?

I run Mode 2 AND I use thumbs on both.

It would also be interesting to see %wise how the pro's do it. I think most of them pinch on the cyclic and thumb on the collective/rudder....from what I have seen anyway.

i was all thumbs when i only flew planks.

forced myself to learn heli on pinch. IMO it actually makes it a little more difficult to reach the switches. but, i *feel* like i've got more control over the sticks pinching....kinda like a pull-pull setup vs. a single arm....two fingers vs. one.

muscle memory won't let me fly for crap on just thumbs now....on helis. planes still won't fly with pinch. it's quite a strange feeling.

if it ain't broke…break it.

I find telepathy to be quite effective...

If you think you're gonna crash, you usually do.

This question has been asked a great many times before..."do a search" and you will find literaly hundreds of peoples answer to your question...I personally use thumbs because that's how I was shown...no other reason.

<--- PINCHER

I've flown pincher since I was 9yrs old. My dad was a pattern flier and all but insisted that I learn that way.

For me its more precise because I have better connection to the muscles on my index finger.

Pinching here..was a thumber but forced myself to learn pinching. I have better control pinching but was able to move the sticks quicker with thumbs..I'll also agree it makes reaching the switches a little more difficult.

Helis:

Right/Cyclic: Pad of thumb right on tip of stick, finger below on the front of the stick, not touching the thumb. Middle finger resting under hold switch. Other 2 fingers supporting the transmitter case.

Left/Collective: Thumb only on tip of stick. Index finger resting under Idle up switch. Other fingers supporting case.

Planes

Thumbs only on both sticks all fingers on backside of case, except right hand which rests index finger on the front of the case.

No strap or tray or anything like that. I guess it's odd that I hold different for planes/helis. Maybe I'll grow out of it one way or the other, but if I forget and do it wrong, it's immediatly uncomfortable. Feels like I'm about to lose control.

Actually, after seeing some of the more detailed descriptions of techniques. I can update mine.

right stick - thumb on top and index finger on front of stick

left stick - more of a pinch... but thumb is still on top with index finger on front of stick.
