I took my 3D pro out for her maiden pattern flight today and loved it... I still need to work out some kinks with the throttle set up though. These little electric jobbers take a little getting used to as far as setting them up is concerned.

Anyway, I am using 2250mAh Dualsky 3S battery runing a Schultze Future controlled Hacker B20 22S and I like the drive system. The motor seems to stay on the hot side though... not sure if it is normal or not.

Well, after about 5 minutes of nice figure 8's and regular patterns, I did the unthinkable..... Yes, on approach getting ready to switch the idle up on to take it upside down for a bit and I end up inadvertently hitting the engine kill switch used for pitch setup.... wouldn't have been too bad if I wasn't at a 30 foot hover over the great rock and sand sea that we have out here.

Well, anyone that flies helicopters knows that I was well within the avoid area of the height velocity chart here and yes, it made a spectacular impact with the ground. Impressively, landing it greasy side down and maybe some instinct caused the total repair bill to be a whopping $6.99 for a new set of landing gear. That is it. She is now ready for her second voyage and yes, I am reprogramming my transmitter to prevent this from happening again.

It is a 9C and I have been using the idle up 3 switch as a set up configuration. The soft start really ate my lunch with this incident... lol

Anyway, back to flying.

at least thats one you can laugh about. cheap and pilot error. no fun when it's not your fault.

i dorked mine this past weekend due to a (self-inflicted) glitch problem. did 3 fff circuits just fine. but, i brought it in to do some inverted when it just started acting up (still rightside up). it was all i could to to keep it in a hover---add the tail swinging around intermittantly and it was a handful.

almost had it level enough to hit t/h and let it settle in to the grass when it rolled right and yawed left at 3'....didnt hit t/h quick enough.

set of SABs, a boom and several head links. not too bad...just sucks. i had just rerouted the deans whip and i think it was loose--vibrating and hitting the carbon boom supports i had just reinstalled.

despite all the apparent bashing lately, i'm still really digging my 3dpro. lotsa fun.

if it ain't broke…break it.

I hear ya on the negative comments. I don't know, I really like the little bugger... heck, if it wasn't so small, it wouldn't be here with me and I would only have G2 to keep me company for this deployment... that would make for a very long year

I have decided to keep it a shaft drive as I prefer shaft driven aircraft. I did order a machined T/R gearbox from microheli though. I don't mind the plastic, and failure really is negligible, especially with a small zip tie added for reinforcement, but I can see how pretty much any seizure of the drive system will cause the tailrotor to explode off the aircraft, and that just doesn't sound too pleasant.

The little bugger really is a kick to play with though. I have a Modeltek Apache fuselage started and it is turning out very nice. Personally, I think this will be a great hummingbird "skin."

Ok... now I am getting worried...

Second flight on the pro today and it wasn't too bad. Did about 5 minutes of hovering and checking the new pitch values. Wind then started to pick up and the desert out here turned into a scene from The Mummy... I just wish I had a camera to post some pictures.

Well, after all calmed down I took the little bird back out for another spin and finally decided that I just don't want to deal with the yaw-rate gyro that I am using any more and am waiting for my brother to send one of my 401 units out to me. I'm still not sure exactly what's up, I am using HS-56's all around for flight controls and when I was doing a flight RPM control check, the tail servo isn't giving me full travel.

i'm not too familiar with many rate gyros. but, post your model--maybe someone else is.

for now i'd suggest you plug another servo in the rudder channel and you'll be able to tell if its a gyro issue or a servo issue.

check the atvs on your radio, too.

if it ain't broke…break it.
