HIROBO Turbulence - SDX - Freya - Sceadu > Why the metal radius block and washout on EVO 50?

I've heard this as a suggested upgrade for the EVO50, do the standard components really wear out?

What's the main benefit for this upgrade..besides looks..

Oh..another question.. can you order quikUK parts from www.quickuk.co.uk or do the hit you with massive shipping charges? Are the same parts sold by Rick's or Heliproz or somewhere else in the US?

I just recieved my Evo upgrades from Rick's. The parts prices are the same or lower than ordering direct from Quick UK plus the shipping is faster and cheaper...no?

The radius block WILL crack around the pins.
I figured I'd wait to upgrade it, but after reading about the stress fracture thing I gave it a closer look, and sure enough, it was damaged.

THIS is what happens with the stock radius block.

There isn't enough plastic to hold together with the existing design. The countersink areas for the bolt head and nut result in a thin weak spot that easily cracks when you tighten the bolts. There is a new version of this part that has a molded side hole for a grub screw, but that one isn't much better (the screw strips out too easily).

The metal version is a highly recommended upgrade.

Is 0404-730 $26.40 at Rick's) the right part number for the metal version?

The Sceadu EVO Upgrade Charts only shows the thing combined with the washout for a combined part number of 0412-188 ($87.12 at Rick).

Will the metal radio block anti-rotation pins fit in the stock washout sliding block?

Is the metal washout block and arms sold separately so i can get them later if i want to (I don't want to lay out $87 right now since i am just a beginner). What would the part numbers be for the metal washout sliding block and arms?

The plastic washout base strips easily, and the plastic guide block is also easy to overtighten the screws in it. The aluminum pieces are well worth it for these two pieces. Double check but I think the part numbers are 0404-730 and 0404-731. The aluminum washout arms are also a good upgrade. I broke them on my first crash, and know other people who break them pretty easily. The aluminum arms are yet to be damaged.

The EX radius block pins will match up just fine with the stock plastic slide block. You don't need to replace the slide block or washout arms just yet. They work fine but may develop some play over time. Just don't overtighten the bolts that hold the washout arms to the slide block. I used the stock setup for a year (12 gallons) of very hard flying on my Evo 30. I upgraded to the full EX Washout set, but I would still trust the plastic slide block and arms with any maneuver.

It's only the radius block that really needs to be upgraded.

Thanks Leif,

It's so tempting to just go for it and put in all the upgrades, but since i'm in the beginning stages I'm much better of spending my money on Fuel...which is expensive enough...

Will replace the radius block...and then the rest when necesarry (if ever).

The stock washout base wears rapidly and you get slop in the pitch slider stuff as a result. I'm still using the stock radius block, going on my third season, and about four crashes later....not a hint of a problem with the radius block at this point.

I replaced the washout base within six months.

ok...put the Ex Radius block on today #404-730.

I kept the plastic washout base /slide block and arms..

Then i thought i'd tighten up the washout arm screws and bit and presto....stripped the threads on the washout slide block....

Looks like the EX version of this block is #404-731 what i can't find is the number for the EX washout arms? Anybody?

Don't use so much of the gorilla factor when you tighten the screws.

Is it safe to use contact on the screw holding the wash out control arm to the wash out if you have tightend it a bit to much.(not completely stripped ,but not as tight as the other side.

thanks

I heard the rumours too so I ordered a metal radius block. I just never bothered installing it until one day, during a fast roll, the heli shot 10m to its left side... I didn't suspected anything as there were strong wind gusts at the time so I thought I had dumb thumb it. After that event, all phasing went beserk. I was unable to make a simple left turn and every loop was an iminent crash.

Three days later I found the radius block to be totally loose. No wonder I wasn't able to control the bird in flight... every aileron input was giving elevator and vice versa. Glad I didn't trash it or I would have never found out.

CHANGE THE RADIUS BLOCK FOR THE METAL ONE ASAP!

My two cents.

Tony

ok..so 0412-188 is the complete SD-G Washout set (radius block, washout base and washout arms).

0404-730 is the SD-G Radius Block
0404-731 is the SD-G washout base/slide block

But what is the part number for the SD-G (i.e. metal) washout arms??

Totally great upgrade

Guys another weak point is the washout arms. They start to get sideways play around the bearings because of the weak plastic. I did the upgrade and my head assembly is tight as a drum now. I was amazed at the difference and how much stiffer and more controlled it made the Evo feel. Well worth the 90 bucks!!!!!!!

Another tip. Xcell has some nice 95mm clear plastic tail blades for $7.00 on heliproz. These blades need to have the root trimmed to fit, but are 5mm bigger than stock and have an asymmetrical chord on them. They hold the tail MUCH better and make it much quicker. I had trouble with a set of MAH blades and the stock blades - couldn't get the tail to trim true - these blades are off the chain and CHEAP.

No, son, you don't want to lick that "eggbeater!"

That's because Quick UK don't make them - you need to buy the Hirobo parts. Try Midland Helis or Skyline.

Have you got the Hirobo part numbers so I can do a search? Can't seem to find SD-G parts here in the UK...
Thanks

Order the whole set from rotordisc.dk

Top service, VERY CHEAP parts (Cyberheli like) and best of all... no customs problems

I get all my replacement parts from there. If I need something over night, I ask for TNT Express and things get here in less than 24 hours and I hardly pay over 10€ for that service.
