wsame: The fan was rated at 5VDC so I just took a direct plug in switchable wall adapter. You can probably but one from Radioshack in the USA or Maplins in the UK.

Well, I mounted two 12Vdc fans on the top cover. I cut out enough material for air flow, and left the small rails that hold the internal boards in place. I added a disconnect plug at the fans. My first cable is to a standard car adapter plug. Later on, I may make a second cable that can go to a 12Vdc battery. These fans draw about a tenth of an amp each so should run for a week on a regular battery!

I have them blowing up or as an exhaust fan. This was because the fan blade is more exposed on the other side and for it to blow in, the delicate blades would be vulnerable.

For normal indoor use, the fans may not be necessary due to the added ventilation created by the air flow holes.

Great idea and pics with the 12v fans George. I have a 12v SLA battery I can use to power the fans myself so will use that to power fans and add a swithed to turn fan on/off. I wonder why 3CX didn't come with small fan like my 4CX (though it doesn't help much cus it's so small) and from what I understand 3CX came out after 4CX. I wonder if I can switch this small fan that comes with 4CX with bigger fan and place it on top like how you have yours (instead of stock mount which is on bottom of unit on one side). Have to measure voltage on it first.

well i am completely fed up with this charger and its @#$#@$@#$ blinking lights. it takes me days to charge a battery.. its absolutely ridiculous. today i tried charging in front of the AC and what do you know.. no blinking lights. anyway i cant do this every time though, and i plan on getting rid of this piece of crap. align should have had a built in fan or something. or maybe even offer some kind of fix??

I agree 100% with fadetoblack. When I bought this from Helidirect and found this defect (flashing lights), I asked for refund but they refused and asked me to contact Andy Yu who's the Align USA rep in Santa Fe, CA. Andy had me send it back to them so they can fix it. When I got it back (3 week later), it has same exact problem. I had numerous email exchanges with Andy about this problem and he indicated that the FET was defective in one of the cells (not all 3 cells) and had fixed it, which I think was a lie because all 3 lights still flashes red/green and have tried 3 different lipos. I have demanded Helidirect to give me refund for this item but have not heard back. If I don't hear back, I will be filing a comlaint with the BBB about their business practices (or lack of).

Fan powered internally

For those who know about electronics, you can power a 12vdc fan from one of the power supplies inside.

DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU DO THIS MOD. YOU MAY GET SHOCKED OR BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH POWER SUPPLIES.

You need a good ball bearing micro PC fan rated at 12 volts or less. Be careful when messing around inside these suckers cause they -are- power supplies and you're plugging into 120 or 240 volts depending where you live..

I'd post pictures but I already modded mine and glued it back together.

If somebody emails me a pic of the solder side of one of the power supplies I'll post the solder points for the fan.

So far so good with my charger and packs. No adverse affects, and no cooling problems at all. Charger barely gets warm to the touch now rather than scorching hot. The fan's underrated supply voltage makes it run almost silent too.. no whining fans at all.

Good luck!

OK I got a big CPU Heat Sink from the computer store yesterday and put it right on the top of my 3CX and it works fine in my apartment, I didn't turnt he heater on and the charger gets a little warm but did it job to get to 3 green LEDs.
But today I tried to charge the same way in the office it start blinking after 1 hours. I figure the reasons are 1) it's carpet floor. 2) they run the heater 3) I have a hot old computer and my laptop transformer below that desk with the 3CX. So the heat sink is not enough and I gotta have some air flow. I picked a 12V little PC fan from the computer store, but now it's the quesiton:
How should I power the fan??
I have a 12V charger for NiMH from my stock BCP, I can just solder a JST plug onto the fan cable and run it thru the wall outlet right?
But I'm really thinking an easy way, but I don't know if it's safe or possible. Can I solder an Dean's connector to the fan and run it with the 2100mah battery I'm charging?
Yes, so the 3CX connect to the wall, battery connect to the 3CX and fan connect to the charging battery.
I need some suggestion from the experts!!

Thanks!

PS the little fan run at 0.07A, I would say it's pretty much nothing compare to the charging system.

have any of you guys ever balance charged a 2 cell and a 3 cell at the same time with this charger? also, it says the charger is for 1000mah lipos and more.. however, ive been charging a 7.4v 850mah lipo for the past week or so with it and so far no problems.. should i stop doing this?

Fan

I've got an RCC 3CX and it DOES have a small fan in the back right bottom quadrant of the case. It also has some vents in the bottom. I make sure it's not on carpet or soft foam when I use it, so it can get some airflow and have not had issues. It's possible that they've changed it as a result of the problem you guys are having, since mine's pretty new.

The one I bought five months ago has no fan in it. I just got suggested not to power the fan thru the charging battery b/c it might affect the voltage measured by the balancer. So I think I will try to power the fan from inside but I don't know which point to solder to. Another thing, while I use the 12V little computer fan it's really loud. I want to use power less than 12V because it doesn't really need that much RPM to get the enough airflow and it's really loud at 12V. I don't want my boss to see that I'm charging the battery at work.
