Well, so I had a bad landing a couple of weeks ago, rebuilt the Beast (Caliber 30) and did the test flight in the backyard today.

Seems strange, there is no wobble in the helicopter, just the blades. It appears to be in track but there is just a shimmer across the head.

I wonder if either the main shaft is marginally bent or else my job in straightening the fly isn't quite perfect!

Shall have to play at the field tomorrow where there is more space and more light and see if I can track down the source!!

All the best,
Steve.

it is often benefical, when asking for help,
to describe what parts you replaced or
did not replace and other information that
might let people zero in on the problem without
having to ask for additional information other
than 'it wobbles'.

If you didn't check the feathering shaft and
mainshaft for trueness, that would be a good
place to start.

hehhe, sorry was more of a retorical statement rather than a question of sorts!!

This crash was a minor crash, hovering nose in just a couple feet off the ground, dumb thumbed the blades just caught the ground. The damage amounted to a broken wooden blade, broken blade grip, bent flybar.

I replaced the woodies with glass blades, put on the new links and blade grip.

My surprise was in the fact that the machine did not have any wobbles, it was just head. I would have thought the machine would vibrate or wobble or something, but nothing, it is steady as a rock!!

Thanks!
Steve.

I think you're likely to find that the feathering
shaft is now bent.

Quick test:

Outstretch the blades. Remove 1 blade.
using a hex wrench, rotate the hex screw
that is holding the blade grip on. Look at
the end of the other blade. If it moves up and
down, the shaft is bent.

Reinstall blade, re-do procedure for the other
side.

Its good enough to remove the blade one on side!
When turning the spindle shaft you are able to see and feel if it´s jumping upp and down on either side.

After a thumping I found my Caliber to have a head shake. I found the main shaft .004" out of true at the top of the shaft. I was able to bend it back to .001. The spindle was true.

Hey, thanks for all the advice.

I was out playing around at the weekend and it transpires it was the paddles that were not quite aligned and this was causing the shake.

The paddles are loose, another half turn and they won't turn anymore, so you have to back them off a touch and I guess they moved during the car trip.

Problem solved now though, it's back to be steady as rock!

Take care,
Steve.

I use blue locktight on the flybar threads to help hold the paddles to the metal insert in the paddles. I also replaced the short grub screw in the paddles with a long one like the Rappy's have so I can tighten the screw a little more.
