e-Lite Machines Corona > Nasty crash and it was going so well......

Last night I got my new Jeti ESC, soldered the deans on it and fired up the Corona. First battery...all was well. Great flight. Even started to get comfortable with side in hover and even made a pretty miraculous save after getting a bit disoriented.

Second battery didn't go so well. About 30' up in a side in hover, the motor just stopped dead and it dropped like a bloody brick. It hit the deck with a sickening thud. The crutch broke in half, the main shaft is toast along with the flybar and the tail boom. Aside from that...no worries. After taking the canopy off, I discovered that the ESC switch must have rubbed against the canopy and actually turned itself off in flight!!!

10 seconds before that, I was telling myself I should sell off a couple of my planes and really get into heli's more. 15 seconds later, I was ready to burn the freakin' thing! Man, this hobby can really try your patience sometimes.

New crutch and a bunch of other goodies are on the way from Chopper1, BT and Lite Machines. '-)

I ain't givin' up that easy...

I'd think about getting rid of the switch. Never used one on any of my heli's.

Thanks for sharing the story with us. We have all done things (not meaning to) that will result in a "THUD"! I have had my share of thuds....that is for sure!

Great trouble shooting with the on/off swithch. I am sure it is moved by now!

I was wondering, whose crutch and flybar were you using?

It was the stock plywood crutch. I ordered the Lite Machines alum crutch as a replacement. Hope that wasn't a mistake. Since ordering, I've seen some referenced to it being quite flexible. Maybe I'll shore it up with some CF before I mount everything.

I purchased some dowels and wiffle balls today at WalMart so next time I fly I'll have some training gear on. I'm going to move to nose in hover next...

I should be up and running again next weekend if all goes well.
