Temperatures...

Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted on here---too long, I need to get my Corona up & going again. I borrowed electronics off my Corona & put on other heli----was reading some threads on here---Bret is right though, the Hacker C40-12T is hard to beat, concerning Corona. As I remember, the temp of the motor was usually between 120-140 (8-cell GP3600 NiMH)---& the matching Hacker ESC, it usually was between 112-120...something. But, I also noticed that the current outdoor temp had great impact determining the high-peaks of temp, makes sense. Maybe the fan wasn't as effective in hot weather.

I did use that small brushless fan on motor though--which if you want fan, don't waste money at vendors--get it at Radio Shack for about $12.00.

For Temp I had the on-board guage & also a Temp gun that I pointed at it once landed---I like the on-board guage because one of the things it does is compute the highest temp reached while in air--& was fairly accurate (within about 5 degrees of what gun would read).
Hope this helped a little, later, Steve.

I'm running a Himax H 35 and a pair of TP 1320s and the motor and batts. are barely warm. Good combination.

Weighs 1 lb 15 oz or 906 grams RTF. cowl is from an EP Concept as the original disintigrated long ago.. This is an original LMH 100 converted to electric.

Aha! My eyes nearly popped out my head after reading your corona is only 906 grams, thinking I must have been doing something horrably wrong because mine is 49oz/1500gr. But then I saw yours is a 100, wich is a bit smaller.

Im thinking of getting an LRK motor. They are much larger (So much better heat radiation), and they have a built in airsuction system to blow out the hot air inside. Perfect for scale body flying. Someone I know is flying his corona with this motor on 5000mAh lipo and does so for a whopping 25 to even 30 minutes! So this motor doesnt care at all for any extra hop-up weight that there might be. Also, it will actually be LIGHTER then what ive got now, because lipo will make my corona drop ATLEAST 4oz. That is when I use 4400 lipo and aim for 20 minutes flight. It could even drop 6oz when I go for 10 to 12 minutes of flight.

I want a Hughes 500 Defender fuselage, and do this:

With some bottle rockets and stuff. :P Buy a whole box of those cheap rockets and make a couple tanks and trucks out of paper. Safety glasses required, people!

I wonder, does the jet on the back actually give thrust? (built in EDF anyone? )

An apache would be even nicer, if I could figure out how to do the retract things.

Do you have any info on the LRK motor. I dont think I have heard of that one in use in the Corona.

Here it is:

On the top left theres 2 buttons (data and motor), theres more info there.

Heres some videos of the coronas that are flying on it:

Rockets?

Coincidentally... thats what i want to do with my Corona too. No paper tanks, stuff thou. I just want to make some cool videos and stuff.

Is that heli picture an RC? Is there anything out there in the form of instructions, kits, etc. or do you basically have to come up with your own setup?

The one in the pic is actually a reall one, but the hughes 500 is available everywhere for about 50 bucks.

Great videos, and when the Mega 16/15-3 is not enough anymore on my Corona I will look into that LRK motor.

That motor really is not enough by default. I dont get why poeple are still reccomending it for the corona. It runs hot, even with a whomping big coolingfin on it. Its to small to get rid of the heat, and basicly even the stock canopy is tomuch for it to fly in the summer. Dont even bother with heavy upgrades or a scale body.

The people who like and reccomend it, must be living in canada or something.

Youre better of flying a +5.5oz motor on light lipo packs wich roughly comes to the same weight as a mega with heavy as skit SubC cells, but with MUCH more mass to dissipate the heat, get into its "happy place RPM" for better efficiency. Plus lipo will probably get you atleast double flight time.

I hear you about the motor issue on the Corona, but there is so many suggestions and recommendations on the choice of motors so I went with the Mega since I already had it.

I've thought about the MD500 and bottle rocket idea too. I don't think the thrust would be a problem if the back of the launcher was open and the rocket was lightly held in place somehow. My delima is how to ignite the rocket. Any thoughts?
