Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > 90SE problems...

I have a Raptor 90 SE that I just ran about 6 tanks through now and started to tune it for power. I run...

-Raptor 90SE
-O.S. 91 SZ-H
-MPII
-Futaba 601/servo
-Hitec RX
-Fromeco reg.
-Tanic 5000mah RX pack.
-HE 1177 digital servos
-V-Blade 690s

Main problem right now it bobs it's tail randomly up and down, mostly in FF, what is the deal with that!? Next thing I noticed when I spool up for the first second is it makes a loud squeel sound, does not sound like a bearing though....clutch? It only started to do it when I started to lean things out....actually just noticed my idle screw was almost closed.... been a while since I tuned a nitro! Any tips? Last thing is I get hit with a glitch sometimes and get the odd twitch when it is idling. I moved the antenna just now because I had it in fuel tube running down the boom brace rod, now it goes straight back from the skids. I know it is not the best RX around but never had problems with them ever in anything else. I also noticed my tail would not hold when I gave it full throttle and in HH mode, but I never did anything to the gyro yet, bump up the gain perhaps.

Your tail issue, take off the rear tail blade grip and inspect all 4 bearings. I had one self destruct and just before my tail was doing what you're describing. While you're there put a pice of shrink wrap around the tail boom gear where the counter pin is so it won't work it's way loose.
Next the squeal sound, make sure your one way bearing is free by spinning the two main gears. On Raptors this bearing get stuck sometimes and make a funny sound. I now always check this by spinning the gears manually before each flight.
For the glitch, make sure all your servo and battery connectors are secure and your antenna is not touching any metal surfaces at all. Inspect your wires by the connector to make sure it's not coming apart there.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Well all the bearings are perfect, don't have any shrink tube big enough so I will go out and get some while the case is open. That sound could be the one way bearing I guess... sure is a god awful sound! Should I worry about it or just fly it? How do you fix this. Thanks.

bobbing

your headspeed may be too low, or your paddles are out of line.
Glitch are you running all digital servos? how bout a PCM reciever?
all digital servos with a fm-ppm RX will most likely glitch.

Low head speed.... that could be, I don't think I flew it on any stunt mode, just standart flight mode and the head speed is low, I will try again with stunt 1 and 2. Paddles are bang on. My RX is FM dual conversion and all digital servos. If it still glitches now I will get a PCM. Never used a PCM, what would be a good one to get for my JR 8103? By the way, how tight should I put the main blades?

PCM is usually a MUST when using all digitals.
for the blades, most people go by, when you tip the heli on its' side, the blades should just barely start to fall, then maybe just tweak the bolt a little more.

O.K. I will look into PCM. Actually something else I thought of... I did not lube my dampers because it did not say to in the instructions, could this be the cause of the bob and should I lube them?

yes it most certainly can be the cause of your bobbing.. Yes you should lube them.. I use a pure silocne grease. If you cannot find it use anything that is not petrolium based.. as it will eat away at your dampners..

Your min HS with red dampners should be fine somewhere around 1600-1650

can you use lithium grease? and do you grease the holes or the outer side of the damptners

I have heard of guys using lithium grease I personally do not know.. The objective is to lube up the inside of the dampners where the spindle rides around on them. I put a small ammount of silicon grease in the holes then I push the spindle almost all the way centered.. I add a little grease onto the spindle and push it in further than centered, I add a little grease to the other side and pull it back to roughly centered. Then I spin it around. If it don't spin smoothly I keep working the grease in till it does. I then clean all surfaces protruding and assemble the spacers, grips, etc on.

Well the weather was good a while ago and seems like the damper lube solved the problem! I also put the head speed up a bit and tuned the engine a little more. I also changed the antenna location and put ferrite rings on my wires... no glitches to be seen but I only had one flight, if I see another glitch I will swap it for a PCM. Thanks for the help guys.... I gotta say I love this heli!

Well not a good day! I took her up again and decided to ease into things with a nice loop and as soon as I got inverted the heli started a fast piro! I was able to get it upright and hit the T-Hold.... my buddy thought I was going to do a Kaos! Anyway I could have saved it but there was alot of junk in my landing area and actually hit a chain link fence! Damage is not that great, I don't know if the fence saved it a bit because it got a little tangled in it but I did lose my V-Blades that I love and never really had the chance to put them to the test! What caused the crash was the aluminum pitch slider unthreaded from the brass insert! My local hobby shop said they will most likely send me the parts I need....not sure about the blades though!
