I was planning on looking for a voyager E since they seem like they have been going for a good price used and always wanted an E-heli.

I would like to know if these are great helicopters. Are spares too expensive? ( I don't crash often, but maybe maitenance). The common motor seems to be the astroflight 020. Is that enough to do 3D. Would it be better if I got a trex or converted a raptor 50?

The VE is a nice sport chopper, but to do 3D, the Astro020 will not cut it, neither will the stock head or blades.

The VE is allot bigger then a T-Rex, so if size is important then the VE is nice for that.

Most Run the VE with a Hacker B40 8L or B40 9L. Same motor as the C40, but without cooling fins.

Most have gone to lipo since the stocl 7 or 8 cell batteries are only good for a couple of minutes of flight and will not work for 3D.

Some of the Used VE have all the upgrade and are a bargin, compared to buying all the upgrades.

I like my VE and it flys really well, but it is far from stock.

What would you say the Astro is capable of? Will it roll and loop with a 4400 mah Lipo and QJ15 head?

I'm not sure what the Astro can do, I have heard lots of stories of the motor failing in flight.

I also heard that the motor is underpowered for the task. but I think it would be better if someone with an Astro chimed in...

It does seem to lack serious power, but mine is not horrible. From what I can tell, most of the failures were on the first version of the motor. So far mine is working well ..

I may pick up a Hacker just for the heck of it

The V-E, if you can reliably fly FF circuits, is really nice. Stable, flies in the wind..

The stock motor on 8-cell NiCads goes for 3 minutes.

Upgrade to a brushless motor (best = Hacker C40-8L), use 10 cell 1700 mah NiCADs, go for 4.5 minutes assuming charge within a few hours of flight, and then land after the XMTR alarm sounds.

Same brushless upgrade, go 3S3P LiPo, fly FF until boredom sets in (13 mins).

For aerobatics,. you must have an upgrade, such as the QJ-15 head.

This head requires careful adjustment, but, if you are up to that, you will have a moderate aerobatics heli, and, with LiPo power, for quite a flight time..

For hard 3-D you need another bird.

Do you think I can use the C40 9L with 4S 3700 ?
