Hi Caliberflyer,

Check out the eflite blade forum. The blade cp is a great choice for getting into the electric scene.

Cheers,
Leslie

For an electric I would suggest a Trex. Once set up right, they fly great. Parts are pretty cheap when you crash. You can learn the basics with it and then you can go 3D with it, if thats what you want to do.

trex 450se

get the trex 450 se, blade cp is great but the trex flies like a 90 and will handle wind alot better...but blade cp is fun but underpowered for any tricks....but that said it is alot of fun

I came, I saw, I crashed!

Hi all,

No hard feelings If you are totally new to heli's I would go with something smaller and tamer than a trex. I don't think a trex is a beginner bird, great bird but not a first bird.

I have some small fixed pitch birds and several others, including two trex's

You mentioned planks so I'm assuming no heli experience from that, hence the blade cp recommendation.

Cheers and keep us posted to what you decide!

Cheers,
Leslie

I would say the T-Rex is a good buy, and you can upgrade it to a full on 3D machine. There are deals on used ones also.

Cheap parts
Well Supported (largest number of posts on RR)
Great Aftermarket parts

-= I know there is Money in RC helicopters. I put it there=-

Buy the Blade CP, I wouldnt recommend the T Rex til after you learn to hover and fly around a little.

I have a Blade CP and a Hawk Pro.

The BCP is an excellent machine, for the money.

Upsides: It is a popular machine, lots of support, and upgradeable and there seems to be more upgrades by the minute. It is cheap to repair.

Downside: It is twitchy. If you use 3cell lipos, you'll burn through motors, main and tail, but you can get 15 minute or better flight times. (I think that's why the motors keep burning out.)

I just got a Hawk Pro. It's my first nitro, WOW. I like it, I do, but my first flight was intimidating. It's a big bird, very stable. Although it's rated as a beginner machine, I don't know. You don't know how many times, when I was learning that I would panic and just cut power to the BCP. I got really good at rebuilding the skids with CA and CF rods.

Although I don't have a T-Rex, I have seen them in action. They appear to be very stable, and impressive.

In summary; The Blade CP is cheap and easy way to get into the hobby. For two hundred bucks, I don't see where you can go wrong.

I am a noob in every sort of the way. I started with the cx.. actually it got me hooked. Then I went to the cp tried the RADD technic and did alright with it, however as far as hovering outside(can't say flying) I thought about giving up on rotary until I tried a buddies t-rex, now I am really hooked. So I wished I would have gone cx to t-rex.

If a seasoned veteran were to disagree with me I would go with what they say.

My first was and still is a Bergen Intrepid EB Gasser. It's huge. I just bought a simulator and practiced like crazy on it before I even bought the Bergen. By the time a did my first real hover it wasn't that hard cause of all the sim time.

My point:

You are going to get a thousand different opinions on a good first heli.

Instead...

Get a simulator first. It's the most practical first purchase you can make. Then you will be more ready to fly whatever you end up with.

thanx for all the advice !

hi all !

thanx for all your replies.

i did some research i came to the conclusion that a FP is great at first but is fairly limited when you want more. so i'll go with a CP.

I'm really down to 2 bird:
blade cp and T-REX.

now i think i will have to trow my old 4 channel futaba controller and get me a 6 channels.

can you guy recomand any good online store in canada ?

thanx again.

On radios, I would recommend 7 or more channels. If you use a good gyro and a governor, you will use all 7 channels. Also get a computer radio that is made specifically for helis.

Another two cents

I didn't see anyone tell you about a Honey Bee cp2... It's a better helicopter then the Blade cp!!! I know.. I own both helicopters!
And the Honey Bee cp2 is stronger comes with better parts and cost less and so do parts!!! You can pick them up for about $150.00 new still in box !! On E-Bay with shipping!!! And most Blade cp or Honey Bee cp2 parts are the same..! Like main blades ,tail blades, main and tail motors ,, 4 in 1 on and on.... The landing gear on the Honey Bee cp2 is a lot stronger also.......!!!! It's your Money!!
Honey Bee cp2,, comes with a lot of upgraded parts you would have to pay more on the Blade cp.. Like,, better battery , 3 D main blades, a lot better head...Just for starters.

Go to your local hobby store and ask them to give you a demo.
I think you will enjoy the Simulator more than anything because crashes and repairs are free. Then please yourself with an affordable acrobatic heli later on.

Get the blade CP. For the money if you decide you don't like it or whatever it isn't a large investment. In C$, you'll pay under C$300 for the Blade CP including radio, battery and charger and you are ready to go. To get the TRex together you'll have to spend closer to C$800 and then the Tx (radio) is on top of that.

Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.

Echo on the sim

I would definitely echo the recommendations for the simulator. You can find decent used simulator cd's here in the classified section. I spent a lot of quality time with the sim I bought here and hovered fairly steadily on my second real world flight with a Walkera 22.

I wouldn't recommend the Walkera though, I'm already moving on.

I too am a mac user, and you are right. No sims for mac yet.

I suggested this recently in another thread.

If you have a Sony Playstation, there is a game out there for it called RC Stunt Copter. This was the first simulator I ever had, and I can swear by it! It WILL teach you the feel and manuevering of an RC heli. It uses the thumbsticks of the sony controller just the same as the sticks on a TX. I spent some time playing this game ( which is pretty fun by the way ) and by the time I flew a so-called "real simulator" it was actually pretty easy compared to the Sony game.

Here is a link to Amazon below where you can check it out. You can pick up a used copy of it for $13.00!!! Now that's not a bad price to get you going on learning helis eh?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...glance&n=468642

Once you master the game, I think you will be ready for something like a Blade or a Honey Bee, or you can get a cheaper, used PC that has the bare bones required to run the "Real Sim" of your choice.

Good Luck!!
