Bergen R/C Helicopters > how's your battery consumption ?

Hi All,

Noticed something yesterday that got me worrying.

A normal flight, no 3D, just circuits, hovering, lazy eights etc..
of about 12 minutes consumed about 800 mA.

Yesterday I had three flights of 12 minutes and afterwards I had to charge my packs with 2400 mA in total.
Those packs are new, were freshly charged the morning before flight and in good health. (2 x four-cell 4.8V 2700 mAh) They are connected in parallel, not yet diode-protected, through a heavy duty switch with dual feed into the receiver.

The setup : 4 analog JR-Graupner servo's (95 Ncm at 4.8V, consumption: 12 mA up to 1800 mA ), Futaba GY401 with s9254 on the tail.

Should I be worried ? Or is this normal ?

Kind Regards,

Jan Dewerchin.

I use 2 four cell 3000ma extra jr bat, parallel,6000ma
when running.8311 serovs,401 with 9254,used to get 4 tanks with this set up,found proplem with my 9254 set up,binding, getting hot,I droped the push pull set up on tail, might have been do to improper
set up and now I get 5.5 tanks within a very safe limit.I found that 9254 servo sucks alot of power.

Kelly,

That was the first one I checked too. Tail is smooth as butter, no binding. I did make an exception to the manual there : I took a 6-armed servo 'disc' instead of a real disc and put the links closer to the middle, so that the servo travels more to get the same output on the tail. Result : tail locks perfectly and 9254 stays cold, even after long flights.

But, I just went through the linkages again and the long nick linkages were not set as they should have been : the servo disc wasn't centered exactly in the axis of the X (if you know what I mean) and so one arm was a millimeter or two shorter than the other. I fixed that and I'll try the setup again in a few days and I'll see what that does to the battery life.

Thanks for the input,

Jan Dewerchin.
