Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Close Call!!! Raptor Tail.

I've read a lot about the raptor tail exploding, but have always simply dismissed it until today. I was on my third tank about to spool-up, as the engine revved up, I suddenly heard a loud noise so I spooled down only to find my tail in pieces. Phew! At least I was able to take my ship home in one piece (without the tail though).

I went so far as to say I've never had that problem. The very next flight it pitched a tail blade coming out of a 540 at about 80 feet, nearly totaled her.

One piece SUS tail hubs for me on all my Raptors and any Raptors I build for other people.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for QuickUK, infact my Raptor now has a full head and several other QUK parts, but the tail hub still uses the same arrangement at the stock one, although I'm sure its beefier, the TT SUS part has the threads machined right into the end of the hub and seems to me the best solution.

Very true about the QuickUK hub, that's why I'll be going with the one in the picture posted by Panomaniac.

As a result of overtihgtning screw on the stock tail hub, mine (and many other raptor owners) broke, cuasing my R50 to spit tail blade with grip. That's how I learned auto

I believe the QUK unit is different from std.

Much the same way as Robbe do it.

You will see the tapped hole for a grub screw to hold the hub onto the shaft. And then you use two bolts to hold the bearings on.

Big improvement over the STD method.

Usually a pic speaks a 1000 words, but I think a few extra words with that pic would explain alot !!!

I use the TT one that Panoramic posted. For anyone that's interested, the part number is PV0499, it's well worth it if you're running the stock tail hub! I had my stock one loosen up on the shaft a couple of times. The replacement is much better since the bolts that hold the hub on the shaft are no longer the same ones that hold the grips in place...makes for more secure contact points. The Quick UK one essentially does the same thing, but with bolts to hold the grips on rather than a nut...same thing, different approach, I'm sure both work well, however I trust the TT one more because it doesn't have the hollow shaft running down where the bearings go, and that's where the majority of the sheer loads are applied for this piece, I would rather have a lot of metal than a thin wall with a bolt
