e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > charger/balancer questions TP 1010c and tp-210v

This question is regarding the Charger of Thunder Power TP1010c (the big boy for Thunder power supposibly?(sigh)) and the tp-210v Thunder power Balancer also the best one for tp supposibly. Anyways...

A few dumb questions probably. I recently received the balancer and cant seem to make it work worth a shiz.

I can plug the battery in (good battery) and it stays a steedy yellow for 5 secs..woopie... not the problem.

So with this in mind I connect it to my charger via the data cable provided with the charger (same brand even!) i then proceed to plug the battery into bank 1 since it is a 3s or 3cell battery, fit fine. I start the charge with my charger and it dosent see the balancer!! Am I doing something wrong or did I just get a piece of shiz!? or a bad unit? I even trid to hit the start button to get them synced and to no avail. is there a trick i dont know about?

Question 2... well since the balancer didnt seem to work with the charger i had a battery appear to drop below 9.7v or whatever on a 3s/3c however that happened, but it did. I dont really trust the balancer now, but i figured i would try it. on the charger it states wrong cell count. so i hooked it to the balancer and the yellow light blinks 5 times which supposibly means that is is below 3.7 v. would that also indicate a wrong cell count on the charger? if so is this battery ruined? no balloning or anything at all, was a good battery till last flight? Do I just charge it at .30 amps like it says till i hopefully can get it about 9.7? Sorry for all the questions..new to this if you can help it would be much appreciated!!! someone has to have this same setup..suggestions well taken too...

Hi,

Just got a 1010 myself and have been reading up on it. From what I have read there have been some problems with the cable that goes between the charger and the balancer that will prevent these two to talk to each other. Just contact TP and they will probably replace it.

It should work fine without the link too - just the extra security features that wont be active.

I dont think your battery is ruined - try charging at .30 amps until it gets over 3,7V, it should not be a problem using the balancer while doing this.

When everything works this is a fantastic combo, I have never had so much fun charging lipos before It should be a lot safer too when the link between balancer and charger works

seriously...

thanks alot for the reply, it is kinda really messed up with what they do, them being TP

they say to use there batteries under warranty that you must "use there charger and balancers" and the peices of shiz dont even talk with they say they are suppose too. pretty neat how that works. spend 300 on new chargers that i really didnt need just to have it integrated and it doesnt even work as spoken about. I will contact tp and give them a little piece of my mind on monday and have them replace whatever is necessary whther it is the charger/balancer/cable or battery or refund if it isnt fixed yet, kinda messed up in my opinion.

anyways, thanks for the helpful info, i am charging at .3 till i get to around 11v then ill bump to a normal charge vs initial charge, seems to be working fine.. thanks again.

I just bought two 1010's and two 210's. One of the data cables was bad. I verified by swapping cables, balancers, and chargers around. I called Thunder power and they shipped a new cable right out to me. Got it in 3 days. Fantastic customer service. New cable works exactly as advertised. Call them. The balancer works great, you can watch it slow the charger down and equalize the cells during the charge when an imbalnce develops. I think it's a fantastic system.

cool

that is cool, glad to see there is some light at the end of the tunnel.. You brought my hopes back up alittle. I thought it was a great concept, now that i know it works for other peoples words, looking forward to talking to them and getting a new one. i just happened to be unlucky and happened to get a bad batch one apparently.

ya the balancer is inteesting even without the connection cable seeing it as it charges seeming to move stuff around or balance with different lights flashing and beeping, not really sure what it all means other than it is probably doing something.

The one thing that most people probably would agree on is there instructions arent very thorough although i was obviously able to charge a battery. with a 100 dollar balancer kinda expected more then one sheet of paper that had a front and back, but if it does its job then all is good

My same setup worked about 3 times before the data cable quit working.

It is true, call them and you will have a new one in about 3 days, and the setup is unbeatable IMHO. I love it, and don't worry about fires nearly as much as I used to

Hang in there, I'm sure they will get it sorted out.

Honey, I just need this one more thing and then I'm set..

I wonder what percentage of the data cables are bad from the get-GO? I have (3) 1010's and (3) 210V's - and 2 of my initial cables were bad. Sure TP in LV will send you a new one but one would think a little "CHECKIE" at the factory could eliminate this problem.

Actually come to think of it my first 1010 was DOA - on power it just sat there with a super bright LCD - so bright you could only see the LCD BLOCKS - and button's did nothing. Makes me wonder a bit about all of my TP batteries - if their hardware is such poor quality....

I have the balancer, but use a different charger.

I wondered about an advantage having the balancer hooked up while charging?

Ain't any, folks, in my experience.

I am using 10S2P TP 4000 mah packs. Here's my ritual: (1) balance; (2) charge; (3) balance; (4) fly; go to step (1).

I have never had a pack out of balance even in the minimum range. So far, I don't need this balancer <g>

Routine discharge is 65% pack capacity. During flight, discharge rate/pack voltage/pack temps are always within TP stated limits.

I think the moral is, "Be good to your packs."

just anothr pain

ya, really not to happy about it, but i guess it happens. I guess if it has happened that much why dont they have something on their website so you can just email them the shipping info? I just forget to call during the day, the last thing I have ot think is about a 5 dollar cable during the day. I will have to remember one of these days, but just alittle agrovating. I think we can relate this to alot of companies/issues with RC hobbies though

The advantage is that the balancer actually slows the current to the higher voltage cells while you are charging. It also bleeds if necessary while charging, (it will get hot if cells are badly unbalanced.

Also, because they are talking to each other, chances of charging a battery with a bad cell are greatly reduced.

NOLONGERFLYING, there is a *contact* button on there website. If you click that and send your address, and a brief explanation, they will send it, however, a phone call will get it to you sooner....

I did receive it

As people stated, i finally had time to call TP and they did send out the replacement cord and received it via ups groudn within 3 days of call. The reason they stated that the cord was bad is because the original one used to small of resister, that was the reason they gave me the cords were bad, dosent really explain why they did recall them if the whole lot was bad, as it would of been if the resister they chose was to small, but they did replace it promptly. So I am guessing that if anyone is using an old cord smaller resister, it will go bad eventually if what they stated was the reason.

Is there a visible difference between the older cord and the newer cord? Just wondering since I just bought a new 1010C - 210V combo but who knows how long the charger has been sitting on the warehouse shelf. Haven't tried using it all though since I don't have an electric heli yet.

I noticed that Thunder Power has a software upgrade posted on their website for the 1010C. Anyone know how to tell which version is on the charger and how do you connect the charger to your PC to do the upgrade if needed?
