As I told someone else that asked me about the conversion motors... for what?

Generally speaking, the glow to gas conversion motors are notoriously weak gasoline motors. Usually due to the low compression ratios used for glow fuel as compared to gas. Gas engines also produce less power per CC than a glow engine, so figure that a 90 sized glow to gas conversion motor will run about the same HP rating as that of a 50 size glow engine.

Now if you take that motor and drop it in a 90 sized machine and add the weight of an ignition system, you end up with an 11-12lb 50 helicopter. What would be the point?

But by all means, don't let me stop you.

I think we're slowly going towards lightweight gas engines with probably electronic fuel pumps and enhanced ignition systems. Fuel consumption will be a lot better, performance will increase, 90 size helis will be the first to benefit from this, smaller helis are more and more electrics.

I chose the Bergen Intrepid Gasser EB over a Robbe Nova-cuatro for the fuel economy reason.

In Belgium, that makes sense :

A gallon of 10 % Coolpower costs 19.50 € in Belgium (prices vary slightly of course). A gallon of gas costs 5.42 € (1 € = 1.649 US$). I'm sure that everyone with a 90 size heli knows what an afternoon of flying costs them in fuel.

My Ergo 30 costed me 9.4 times more in fuel costs than my EB for the same flying time.

Note : that was a OS-32 engine , compared to 26cc Gasser.

All initiatives to increase the fun while reducing the costs should be sponsored by national governments. All of them.

Kind Regards,

Jan Dewerchin.

Buddykitchen,

Before we get the wrong idea :

I said sponsored (being thrown money at to help the idea evolve), not controlled nor managed. Not even moderated.
I sure do hope that your remark was sarcastic.

Kind Regards,

Jan Dewerchin

I totally agree with you.
A little funny note : In Belgium, we have a secretary of state who's job it is to look for ways to reduce the impact of the government on the population. Unfortunately, he missed the biggest reduction of all : to stop harassing people by asking them how the impact of the government on their life might be reduced.

Note: it seems a little strange that there are no remarks or comments concerning my slightly more interesting observation that the engines should be evolving towards smaller, stronger, lighter, more high-tech engines.

Kind Regards,

Jan Dewerchin
