I have a raptor 90 se that has vibration problem ,airframe has a buzz to it and the servo horn on the tail boom keep fracturing , it had a webra 91 aar that I thought was the problem but I have now fitted the new 91szh o/s and on the second flight the header tank bracket broke off . Please has anyone got any ideas as to what it can be , I have now stripped the airframe but nothing obvious.

Bearings wouldnt break anything just cause some glitching, I would check ALL of your shafts, blade balance, fan balance, anything that rotates at high speeds, check.

I have had the clutch and fan checked for balance and the main and feathering shafts are new , after the last tail rod failed I changed blades main and tail, boom, carbon drive , shafts , flybar. The buzz is there even at ideal

If the vibration is there at idle, the only things moving are the engine fan and clutch, so it has to be there.

Recheck the both the fan and clutch for balance.
Also check the fan and clutch while assembled together for balance.
Mark which way you had them together when balanced so that you can put them together the same way on the engine.
With the fan mounted on the engine check the inside diameter of the fan hub for run out.

It is also possible that your idle is to high and/or needle settings need to be tweaked.

I've seen alot of runout on the TT metal fan. It can take quite a bit of work to minimize the vibration.

The starter shaft bearings also support the clutch bell

Thanks for the help there is some play in the starter shaft bearings but not much I am going to fit new cluch assembly and quick uk fan instead of the thundertiger unit. This is not a one off problem my friend had the same setup as me ie 90se webra 91 601 gyro etc and had a servo horn brake , so changed to a disc , this then wore the spines of the disc , next the tail rod ball fell off . He has cured the problem he now has a vibe , I dont want to be beaten by it so i am open to any theory however farfetched .

Did you check the run out of the fan and crankshaft? It sounds like you may have a slightly bent crank on that new OS.

Also, are you using the same fan as before or is it new too?

One more thing, I had a similar vibration that was breaking GV-1 cases. After a LONG search, it turned out to be a failing power switch. In short, the Rx was getting turned off and on at a stupid fast rate. Just fast enough not to reset the Rx or gyro.

Wow Blake that sounds really dangerous. You should be very lucky you didn't crash because of that.

Yes, I was VERY lucky on that one. I flew it for almost 4 months that way try to find the vibration problem! One day while I was hooking up the charge jack, I had to wiggle the switch to get it to charge. I replaced the switch with a Fromeco Fail Safe Switch like I use on my Big QUK R91. No problems since. Go figure???
