Do you have any video links without body?

My Ecureuil AS 350 is being built. More info here.

Artwork is not my strong point and have never sprayed a model.
I'm trying to figure out how to paint this body and need some help.

Let any opinions, tips and advice please start rolling...

I've found a supplier Krylon Fusion for Plastic for me to UK import. Mmm "ORM-D Product. No Air Shipping." Might take a while by boat??

What colour scheme from the colours available here?
1 2 3
4 5 6

Image 1: Was my first choice but not confident I can do the stripes.
Image 2: I like a lot, looks simple but won't suit black window decals.
Image 3: Also not good with black windows. Bad colour for flight visibility.
Image 4: Undecided, plain and relatively simple. Visible.
Image 5: Seems easiest to mask and spray .
Image 6: Wavy curve looks hard.

What are the objects on the landing gear of Image 2 & 6?
What are they for and how could I fabricate them on the model?

What brand of ESC and rx to use?

Hi all, I just got my 3-blade A-Star from Tower Hobbies last week. Before I gether all the necessary electronics, I would like to find out what ESC would best suit the outrunner motor that came with the kit. Electric Fly has BL ESC's as cheap as $39, is it any good or should I get the MS BL ESC for better reliability? What do your guys think about Berg rx for the setup?
Is there anything else I need to look out for during the build? I read about the boom being a little bit too long for the scale setup. Does anyone have any issue about the boom length?
Thank you all.
Happy holidays

You will have to use a motor with a long 3.17 mm (1/8 inch) shaft (for conical pinion fit), that is 1100 rpm/v to achieve the desired main rotor RPM range 2100 - 2400. The EM-300/34 (Axi 2208/34) brushless outrunner comes with the Ecureuil AS 350 combo deal.

The recomended ESC options are the simple MS-116 or Jeti Spin11 ESC and Jeti box.
I don't know about 'Electric Fly has BL ESC's' but the Jeti based controllers seem to work very well for me with the Axi style outrunners.

I thought that the Berg Rx is one of the better one's, so you should be fine.

Here's my Ecureuil AS 350 build info and useful links here (still awaiting paints).

Building with the long tail drive shaft gears placed accurately gives the correct boom length. You can always leave a couple of mm on the boom fuselage skin, in case you have a problem and cut it down later.
It is important to make sure the long steel drive shaft is very straight otherwise it will buzz at 12K rpm. Here I added extra bearings to stop resonant zones on the shaft.

Thank you, DarkHorse1
I started building my tailboom yesterday. Upon initial examination of the boom and shaft, I noticed that both the shaft and the boom are not perfectly straight. I am going to test run the motor with the boom installed to see if there is any vibraion.

I just purchased a Jeti Spin 11 BL ESC for the outrunner motor that came with the kit.
Should I use the Mode 2 (Acro outrunner with 24-degree advanced timing) or Mode 5/Mode 6 (Constant RPM setting with no advanced timing)? Mode 5 and 6 do not specify whether it is for inrunner motor or outrunner motor.
According to the instruction manual, one has to have the throttle stick at the max position then turn on the tx to initiate the setup. Close the throttle stick when you hear the number of beeps that corresponds to the desired option. Then it has a little note stating "void for Spin 11." What does that mean? If you have a Spin 11, please let me know how you have it setup. I am not using a Jetibox.
Thank you

For conventional throttle curves, if you don't get timing splutter from the motor at high rpm then try Mode2 otherwise Mode1. My 2208/20 on 4s X-3D isn't always happy at high timing 24º at 26,000 motor rpm (32K switching, 8K seems better... still testing). It would probably be fine in normal 3s operations.

"void for Spin 11." refers to the Spin11 doesn't have an on switch.
I have never done this but I assume:
Initialise the ESC with full throttle... the ESC beeps (via the motor pulses)
Either return the throttle to zero stick to store the new 100% stick value for your Tx endpoint etc.
Or cycle through the mode tones and return to zero stick on the one you want to select.

The Ecureuil manual recommends governor mode Constant RPM. I switch between both depending on whether I want to use Revo mixing with standard rate gyro (throttle curves and wag free tail) or HH gyro (gov mode Constant RPM, slight tail jitter).

Build difficulties

Many thanks to DarkHorse1 for clearifying the myth of Jeti ESC setup.
I just started putting the mechanics together and noted that the main shaft diameter is a bit too big to go through the two bearings. I am thinking to use sand paper to reduce the shaft a bit to see if it will work. I am wondering if you guys out there had similar problems. I am also having a hard time pressing the bevel gear onto the motor that came with the kit. It seems very tight; I worry if I use a vise to press it in, the pinion may crack.
Please let me know what other build difficulties you have experienced.
Thank you
Hiko

Thanks. I used Krylon Fusion for Plastic satin burgundy and dover white. No surface preperation, just spray and hope .

I got impatient, here's the 98% final build. Still to lock down a few panels and little bits, plus move the Centre of Gravity forward a little (as in the instructions). More build and paint info here.
