| I steer primarily with the elevator, and mostly only use rudder for big corrections when it gets really off track. I think the 'perfect' technique would use equal amounts of both. I find myself using small amounts of rudder more and more for minor corrections, but as far as I can tell, it's just going to take a lot of practice to get a 50/50 balance between rudder and elevator inputs.
I did my first circles with rudder only, but I didn't really consider myself competent until after I heard about the elevator steering technique - that made for a quantum leap in my ability. |
