First of all I got my pre-painted canopy in yesterday, and let me say, it looks just like a sunset painted on my canopy. Very nice. Pics to come soon.

My problem is that when the canopy is on the heli, there is a connecting rod to the swash plate that rubs a little bit on the edge of the canopy. Is it common to have to do a little trimming here and there or have I just put it on wrong somehow? I was thinking of taking my dremmel tool and just using it to shave off a sixteenth of an inch off the edge. I just don't want to mar up the paint job. Any suggestions?

Also, I was getting ready to order a hand cranked fuel pump ( for gasoline of course ) and some extra tubing to fit it with. Can anyone tell me what size and type / brand fuel tubing to get that will work with my Intrepid? I would look it up in the instruction manual, but I don't have the software to open the manual on my Mac.

Brady -

Medium Prather or Tygon is good and I found the manual slimline pump attached to the 1 gal tank to be great, for me anyway.

Brady,

Yep trimming is normal to clear the lower star on the swash. I used a sanding barrel on my dremmel and took of what i needed off slowly.

Dont know what diameter is used for the petrol version. Give Larry a ring and he can recommend

The Jersey Modeler fuel system seems to be the container/pump of choice these days. They make a manual and an electric version. I have the manual 2.5 gallon model and love it.

As for fuel tubing, you can use tygon, although I have hear that it can deteriorate quickly. I have been using the blue Aerotrend "easy flex" large diameter tubing with success. I happen to need some quickly and this is what my LHS had. I like it.

Your car uses an electric pump to move the fuel. If made properly, there's no reason it can't be done. Jersey Modeler makes one and has had great success with it.

Aerotrend makes a gas version of their tubing; they have for years.

I use a jersey modeler 2.5 hand crank and love it. I have seen an electric one and they work great too. Glow line will swell bad in gas.

Okay, one more time: Aerotrend make tubing for gas as well as nitro:

2' long, 1/8" I.D.

30' spool, 1/8" I.D.

I was talking about the normal silicon type stuff. But that aerotrend stuff does look great. Does it ever stiffen up like tygon?

Tristan,

I don't have enough hours with it to know if it will harden up, but so far, so good! I'm not sure if I can explain this clearly, but I'll try:

Brand new Tygon line seems to have harden very quickly, to the point that it will sometimes slip off of a fitting if I'm not careful. The Aerotrend line starts off a little stiffer than Tygon is initially, but does not appear to harden in the same way. After a fair amount of gas, warm and cold weather, and so forth, it still pliable and grips all of the fittings like it did when new. All of the Tygon used at around the same time has hardened.

The next time I place an order with Tower, I will probably get that 30' spool just to have some extra around. I like it!

BK,

You're being argumentative and non-productive in this discussion. A spark hot enough to ignite fuel can have many causes. Fires have been caused simply from then engine backfiring during a bad start attempt. A bad ignition wire can cause an even worse spark.

As long as the innards of the pump are grounded, the odds of sparking rapidly approaches zero.
