I have read with interest about the troublbeshooting and set-ups of the Hummingbird V3
I also watched the video of, I think, Skeeter?... flying his hummingbird one handed outside (snow on ground) I have never been able to get my hummingbird that stable.
It will spin up and hover for a few seconds, and then start to drift in ever widening circles (while I am holding the tail in) or bob slowly front to back until I have to land the thing to prevent it from running into something.
From everything I have read, I imagine that as I am able to hover, I should be able to keep it in a hover with little input from me. But as it flys, it seems to become unstable in a short time.

I have read about balancing the blades, and I think I could do this, but I have no blade balancer. Also, what is the best procedure for balancing or setting-up the flybar? Paddles?
Any help would be appreciated.

even though I have only hovered a little, I am hooked, I fly even my unstable heli every chance I get. Wierd huh?

sounds like a blade bolt issue. i have to torque mine down pretty tightly to keep it from getting into the Wobble of Death®.

i literally tighten the blade screws down as tightly as i can.

try that first.

if you still have the wobbles, you might try balancing the blades and flybar. if you have a caliper you can pretty accurately measure the exposed flybar on each side of the head. make them the same and you should be balanced. otherwise just do the best you can with a ruler.

to balance the blades you can take them off and screw them together using a nut and bolt. make sure they are perfectly straight and use a straight razor blade as a balance. if the balance is not far off you can just add a strip of tape to the end of the light blade. if it takes more than a strip of tape to balance, you may need to file down the end of the heavy blade until they are equal.

that's about it. nothing too fancy. good luck.

Hmmmm... Well, the first question I have is.. The flybar is glued into the head on this V3(it was the RTF) Should I then balance the flybar by moving one or the other of the paddles so they are the same distance from the head?

And... what about tracking? Should the balanced blades track evenly, or will I also have to adjust that too. Century tells us to put tape on the higher blade....

in theory i guess that should work. but, these micros are a game of 1/10s of grams. in theory you should be able to get the flybar balanced by adjusting the paddles. but, with the flybar still in the head you have no way of knowing where the CG is. the only way to KNOW the bar is balanced is to have the paddles on the flybar a fixed distance; then measure the exposed amount of flybar on either side of the head.

of course, i have actually broken a see-saw trying to get the flybar out before. so, if you think you might break it trying to unglue yours, i'd just give the trial and error method a try and just stick with adjusting the paddles.

they *should* track evenly. but, that isnt always the case. balance the blades as i suggested. then follow the tracking procedure you found in the instructions.

Hi All,

I am not thrilled with the idea that the flybar is glued. I would try to free it as Cuda has mentioned. I you are stuck and have to play with the paddles, make sure when you are done they are firmly attached. They can become really, really scarey projectiles if the let loose. Use some loctite when you get them right.

Everyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the blade trimming on the V3 was done by holding the root of the high blade and twisting the end downward.

the flybar has set screws underneeth the head, just adjusted mine today. or actually a friend adjusted mine today.
