Thanks for the reply, when i turn the rotor it feels notchy i have stripped it down but i cant see anything wrong, i also have a uni star60 which has the same tail rotor and when i turn that it is smooth not like the other one.
I have been to a web site and downloaded some instructions and i will see what that brings, i might have to shim it up.
Thanks for the reply.

Shimming is the way to go !!!!

I made the mistake of not shimming my first one correctly. After 6 - 8 gentle flights, the gears stipped, lost tail rotor, and the rest is history ... £££££££ !!!

When I rebuilt it, I took the time to make sure I got the gear mesh just right. So far 15 flights and all is well, but time will tell !!!!

Hi,
Yep that is what it needs if you take your time with this you should be able to get it super smooth but sometimes it can be necessary to drill another hole in the gearbox to relocate the small screw.
Good Luck

Hi George,
Let us know how you get on with your tail rotor, Graupner tail rotors are known for being one of the best around.

Hi all,

It's a very yes to all gears on graupners. You have to fit and shim all!!! the gears to a perfect fit and it will run for a lifetime. just make it turn smooth but without any play..... I also speak from experience and stripped some tailgears and some maingears because the old manuals weren't clear about this in my opinion.

hi

My tail rotor was realy noisy,so i removed the wire drive and installed a tube drive (my friend stuart did actually) its now perfect.dont be to fussy with the tail meshing as long as it isnt to tight it should be fine!

The tail drive mesh is very important with these tail gearboxes.
Using the shims to obtain the correct mesh is essential, if there is too much play the gears may slip which will strip them, if the mesh is too tight the gears will wear very quickly as well as being too stiff to operate properly.
You must use shims to get the proper set-up.

yes i agree it is very very important that the gear mesh is correct on ever part of the graupner mechs especialy the tail, and i should not have been so flippant with my comments. But i must add that i spent a whole day shiming and aligning the tail gear box on my bell to get perfection, only to find that on the test flight the tail box blew up!!!!!! my next box had no shims and took aprox 30 mins to build.80 flights later and it is still fine?? I'VE NO IDEA WHY

Sorry Tim I didn't mean to make my post sound like you had been flippant.
Everytime I have built up a Graupner gearbox I've had to use shims in order to get smooth operation but I'm pleased that yours is running ok.

Could I ask if anyone has a part# for a complete tail rotor assembly?
Thanks,

Your best bet would be to have a look at the V-east site.
