Bergen R/C Helicopters > Bergen Heli blade sizes, why so short?

I know this isn't a T-Rex question, but I was checking the Bergen site and noticed in their add that the Interceptor only had an 800mm main rotor diameter, only 100mm larger than my Rex. Is that right or did I read it wrong and it's supposed to be 800mm blade length?

After seeing that I can't imagine what kind of head speed you'd need to get it in the air.

Maybe I'm just not getting this into my head right...

That'd be 800mm blades...

So you're gonna be spinning a 1650-1700mm rotor. I don't know what the dimensions are of the Bergen head blade grip to blade grip...

And that's 90-110mm longer then your average 90 size blades

*Intrepid?

I just looked at their site, they probably mean main blade size.

Woops, yes "Intrepid", my bad.

Yeah, it must be blade length. Just the way it was worded threw me off.

Thanks,

That's an 800 mm long blade, measured from the mounting bolt hole to the tip. The rotor disc is about 1640 mm in diameter.

The rotor disc is BIG, and that's one BIG helicopter.

I will soon be sporting 810 mm Vblades on my Intrepid.

And yep, it's one big chopper. And so cool I can't hardly get over it.

I'd love to have a heli that size! I figured though that I would learn on flying and 3D'ing the T-rex (one: because it's harder to fly, second: because it's cheaper to fix after a crash). I've been looking at at least a 50 size when I do step up or even a 90 like the Raptor or something similar.

Just wait till ya hear that sound

I have heard some pretty neat sounding blades on the big boys and I have to say that it is an incredible sound. That is the 800mm or larger blades make when they are put to work. I have come to enjoy hearing them sing when you start making those big paddles move the air in a hurry Bergen Intrepid EB G26 800mm WOP! WOP!WOP!
The other thing that will amaze ya is that the heli will fly well at 1450 main blade rpm and at 1650 to 1700 it is a horse race.

When you make the move, go with the Intrepid. You'll save a bundle in fuel alone verses the nitro. Having just gotten my EB in the air, I've already got a gallon through it in 2 days. I'd have hated to plunked down the $$$ for glow fuel. Big heli's are thirsty. Feed 'em gas!

Just a note..I measure my rotor diameter at 70 1/8" with 810's installed for those of us not wanting to do the math. You know who I mean (Crazy Horse)

I didn't read up on the Intrepid, but I think I will now! How is it's 3d capability (aside from the pilot issues, lol)? Is it capable or to bulky?

I love the womp womp womp sound (one of the reasons why I went electric in the first place. I stick my T-Rex half way into a roll and pull out hard just to make that great music from the blades!!!!

You wanna see how the Intrepid does at 3D? Here ya go

http://www.augustoheli.com/videostu...rie/default.asp

There's some video of Malorie Zastrow doing some impressive 3D with the Bergen Intrepid.

As far as taking "baby steps" towards a big gasser like the Intrepid, I don't think that's neccesary. If you are going to get one eventually, you might as well just get it now.

The Intrepid is the heli I have learned ( still learning ) to fly on. It handles great. If you can fly other helis, you will have no problem flying the Intrepid. Don't let the size and the fact it's a gasser intimidate you. It's rock solid in the air. The first time I EVER hovered was in 30 mph gusts! I think of mine as the "gentle giant" But watch out if you make him mad

Definatley look into it before buying another nitro heli!!!!!

I love my raptor 60 with her OS70,but lets look at a little math.
Wildcat nitro 15% =$18-$22 a gallon, 550cc main with 20z header tank is 15-18min flight time per tank,8 tanks per gallon.
Coleman camping fuel $3.29/5oz oil .69cents=$3.94 per gallon,25-30min on Intrepid camera ship per tank/35-40 on my intrepid hot rod.
With the fuel saving alone (wife's not looking:D)I could afford another gassier in no time

Well put. And if we modify those calculation some since I'm using cheaper gas...I can buy another even sooner!
