I have never seen a piccie of a 3DNT with a header tank.
Anyone use one, or should I not worry ?
If someone does use one, how have you mounted it ?

Perhaps I should use the UNIFLOW system. Anyone try this ?

Thanks

You don't need a header tank. I have never felt the need to install one. Fuelflow is great in all positions with the stock tank. Good luck with your NT.

I've always hated the thought of having to use a header tank - I know certain models do actually require them to have any success at all, but not the ThreeDeeNT - just install the tank as described and fly it dry .

I'd hate to think where to put it if I did need one on this model though - there's just no space any closer to the carb than the tank already is!

Carps,
the key is the Felt Clunk. The has 3 things going for it:
1. very heavy, so it stays falls forward when using the included fuel tube
2. the felt soaks up the fuel and gives more constant flow
3. the felt soaking fuel also hinders any air bubbles to be sucked in

There is 1 downside:
It can get clogged by certain fuel (if the oil is very gooey). Be sure to check it every now and then (6 weeks). I used Cool Power and it gummed up the felt. I noticed since I engine started to lean out and it would die even though the tank wasn't completely empty. After I cleaned it (let it sit in rubbing alcohol or pure methanol overnight), it worked like a charm again. Now I'm using different oil and it doesn't happen anymore.

Oliver,

You said you stopped using CP and changed to another oil that did not clog the felt on the clunk. What kind of oil did you change to?

Thanks - Sam

@Sam,

I started mixing my own fuel.
See also 3DNT Needle Settings

I use Klotz Heliglow and pure Methanol in the following mix:
Oil: 12%
Methanol: 88%

I've got it to work without problems but squirrel has had some problems with that combo and his Lötterle carb. I'll try to debug his problems soon.

Thanks for the info., Oliver. That is what I mixed up but I am going to start with 15% oil for the first gallon and then reduce it to 12% there after.

Sam,

15% should work well. The Lötterle comes standard with a 1.5 degree needle (this needles controls the mid-range) which works best with high viscosity oil and 15% or less oil (Cool Power is about 18-22% depending on the Nitro). The Klotz is a bit thick but it works for me.

I used to run 5% Cool Power and the standard needle which made the mid range too rich. I didn't try another needle as I didn't have access to one. Now with 12% oil, the engine runs really great and excellent in mid-range.
