I'd buy it

Knowing the Hirobo quality and support even though they are different I firmly believe sinking funds into the Lepton is well worth it then sinking funds into the Trex SE. I have 3 SE's and sorry the quality of the product is not there!!! I think Hirobo has a great product and I think the Lepton will do very well this year.

Hey Jeff, how does the Hyperion motor fly compared to the Hacker?

The Trex SE is all "topshelf carbon/aluminum" and you can get one for $490 that includes the motor and ESC.

You must be joking.

Edit: I see that you were..

I am predicting that the Lepton is going to be one of the hottest a/c this summer, expecially when they release the plastic version of it.

The 8XL versus the Hyperion Z3025-8, the Z3025-8 is the better motor of the two. Its surge capacity is higher and takes the collective loading much easier. It also fits the supplied gear ratios nicely.

The A30 8XL is a great motor for all around fun.

Just some info for the very fair devil's advocate pricing question:

Letpon EX 3S

(assuming you have radio and receiver and no other electronics)

Kit: 650.00
Motor: 90.00
2 3S Apex Batteries: 100.00
3102 Servos x 3: 113.97
9650 Servos x 1: 59.99
GY401 Gyro: 134.99
Speed Control: 139.95
RB977 Charger: 95.99
Total: 1384.89

Lepton EX 4S

(assuming you have radio and receiver and no other electronics)

Kit: 650.00
Motor: 90.00
4S Hyperion 3700: 167.95
3102 servos: 113.97
9650 Servo: 59.99
GY401 gyro: 134.99
Speed Control: 139.95
RB989 Charger: 189.99
4S BEC: 33.95
Total: 1579.80

Having owned other micros, there is no real comparison between the two sizes. But then I am biased. The real benefit will come out in the long run ownership of the Lepton. Time is valuable and if more time is spent flying then tweaking and replacing, then the extra price difference will be worth it.

Jeff

just the support alone you get from Jeff Green is worth more than the Trex kit ....

Jeff, have you tried to get a 9254 servo in for the tail,
I am interested in using a 502 gyro,
Thanks,

One more comment regarding Jeff's price schedule

Not to bash the trex, because it is a fun heli. once you get it setup.
But I have spent about the same money to get my SE running properly as the setups/price Jeff has outlined.
There is no concern if the heli. is going to fly right if set up properly.

Let's see...

I don't need the batteries or a charger.

So that brings the price for me to $1188.90.

That's not too horrible!!! And I don't have a wife that I need to sneak it by...

Yep - I think I might just have to get one!

T-Rex vs Lepton? Hmmm. Let's see. I'm willing to bet the main gears for the Lepton will actually be round. I doubt the swash will separate or the belt will break in flight. It honestly scares me to think of the T-Rex 600's spooling up after the issues I have had with my T-Rex.

Yeah - what's with all the issues on the Trex? Especially the belt issue???

I have 2 Trex's and have had belt issues with each one.

On my (much more powerful) nitro helicopters, I set the belt tension when I built them, and I've never had any belt issues whatsoever!!!

Hello,

I have just ordered my kit in the UK, its in stock and I should have it tomorrow as they arrived in the shop today, I wasn't expecting that!

Does anybody have an opinion on the preferred motor and speed controller for 3s and 4s setupsthat I can purchase from a UK supplier?

I was thinking of using Flightpower 4s 3700 Mah packs.

Matthew.

Answers to latest questions.

Ours will be arriving Next week and be immediately shipping to dealers. We may even get them today or tomorrow.

Yes Heliproz has ordered them.

9254 servo will not fit. 9650 servo is the recommended servo. With the 401 set at 35%, the 9650 has held up nice and only blown out when the head bogged. That is not the servo's fault.

The battery area is 50mm wide x 40 high x 160mm long. If your battery will fit in that area, you are good.

I think the 4s 2100 profile batteries might be too long. Check.

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff any advice on how to use the 3 holes in the main shaft?

The 9254 fits with just a little dremel work. Believe me the 9254 holds much better :-)

p.s. it looks to me the tail blades are a little bit too small....

regards,

Corrado

All testing has been by the book so far. I have used the middle hole as seen in the manual.

You are right, the 9254 will fit the hole, but new mounts need to be drilled.

In testing we need to fly it as per the manufacturer's instructions. So far we have not had a problem with the 9650 holding the tail. FYI the torque of the 9650 is more than the 9254 and the tail is smaller than a bigger heli. Speed is higher on the 9650, so maybe that has an effect. But so far it is has not shown up.

We flew it all weekend at MHA and there were no complaints about the tail holding.

Not much room for longer tail blades especially with the tail fin lenghth. Ask me how I know!

We are watching it though.

Thanks

Jeff

fwiw..

I feel the 9650/401 will be fine..I have no complaints about the Rex tail in 3D with that combo when set up properly, and the Lepton can only be better...Size does too matter!
