Im in utter shock and disbelief, I come home from work today and there is a box sitting on the floor. Its a brand new QJ8 V2 SP. My girlfriend ordered it and surprised me...what a gift! what a surprise!
Im so happy.

But wait,
I already have a QJ8. old version september 2005.
just underwent a complete makeover from power section to servos what a pinch in the wallet...
I have enough spare parts to build the kit but it would be very underpowered. If I decided to "build" this kit, I'd be spending some bucks...
I'm so confused.

I really wanted a QJ6 if and when that will be released. But I cant look a gift horse in the mouth. Kind of mixed feelings.

Hey TwinRing !

If your girlfriend is as understanding as she is generous...
1. I would explain to her how surprised and Happy you are about the gift
2. Explain you already have that model
3. Tell her that a QJ-6 OR QJ-18(that's just me talking) would make her
the most understanding and generous person in the world (and that
wouldn't be to far off the mark!)

Good Luck...you lucky Son of a Biscuit!!!

Hmm,
good point, its kind of hard since im dealing with something as theoretical as a QJ6. I think about a parts machine but what a waste.
Yes she is generous, sometimes though it seems like she wants to take all my helis and run them over with her car, so like I said before, im shocked.

That makes the whole thing a little more touchy!

Just be careful and play it cool....you'll get
the right heli and keep the girlfriend.....of course!!!

she knows I already have that model. I know it sounds like im whining about something so trivial and If money werent an issue here Id build this thing with all the parts it deserves and fly it into the ground,

Ok...Twin

Just build it out slowy with all the best stuff .. as you can afford it.

Put it in a visible place....as you build it slowly......

Instant....shrine to her generousity!

PERFECT...

Helicopters sure are FUN!

Yeah they are fun,
actually I just thought of something, what if I build it as cheaply and as light as possible? Using this heli as an experimental test bed. The idea would be to get the smallest lightest setup that gave insane flight times and then report my findings here. I want to push the limits of the lightest QJ8 with the smallest battery instead of the opposite approach that everyone including myself has taken with the most power they can stuff under the canopy. What do you think?

Clever idea to use it as testing platform, with lots of benefits. Light weight means faster response to cyclic, better 3d performance.
Twinring please update the thread with any results from your new testing platform.
I’m also thinking… girlfriends are not making such gifts without asking something. If this is the case you have to act fast, try to examine her needs and prepare a surprise for your lady. Be smart when you choose a present for a girl, size is more important than value.

agree, id make it my "pride and joy" and name it after her...and going "light" will keep cost down...

or - you can always wait till christmas and maybe she would get you the rest of the items needed...maybe a name could be "yes dear"?

Yeah ok. Maybe you guys could contribute your ideas of what might work and what you think you would like to see tested. The Hacker A30 series weigh in at 177gms. Id like to cut this down to 100gms. the packs im using are a 196gms each, im using 2. Id like to cut this down as much as possible.

Try some light 4s packs. Those polyquest 4s 2600mAh look good at 241gr they are almost half the weight of what you have now. Check the specs at http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=2684

You can try some motors in 100gr range like the medusa 28-40-1200 or the hyperion Z3013-14.
Whith light rc equipment you can go down to 1200gr mark.

This is what I call a cool girlfriend. She is trying to be a part of your helilife. Make it a testbed and share your findings.

EP 6 has not hit the shelves yet, and once it does it will be there for a while! No need to rush.

Congrats, you found Mrs. Right! She is a keeper!
