e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > thinkign of buyign a blade CX

I have a Blade CP that I had for about 4 months and I do fly- more like hover - in the house. I personally would get bored with the Blade CX. It's too simplified and it really doesn't help to hone the basic skills of non-heading hold type flying.

I've been creating obsticales and flying it through and over and under and backwards.Whatever I'm able to do with this thing.I'd have to say for my first heli,I'm happy with what I got.

In my previous post in this thread I stated I thought I would get bored with the CX. Well, last night I had the chance to fly a CX (not just in the hobby shop) for about a half hour and I can honestly say it was a blast. We were flying indoors in a friend's garage and practicing landing on different things set up around the garage. I found myslef having a lot of fun. Still wouldn't trade the CP, but if I get some spare change I will definitely buy a CX for indoor flying. Wow, it hovers hands off and I think for a first helicopter would be a great choice. I change my vote to thumbs up.

I am thinking about picking one up for my kids to play with while I am playing with the BCP or the Trex .. They really want to try to fly the BCP and I told them if they could show me they could hover it in the sim then I would let them try... they have yet to actually put any real sim time in aside from making that poor digital Heli crash into the dirt

A friend just picked up a Lama V3 and it seems a lot like the BCX but much less $$ .. I guess I should fly his around and see what a dual rotor is like before I go out and get one.

I guess the question I have is ... does anyone have experience with both the BCX and a Lama ? How much difference is there between the two ? Will I wish I spent the extra $70-$80 on the BCX ?

JesDer,

i have own and fly the BCX along with my BCP. i personally love this little thing. i have flown a lama 2 and the only thing i like about it was the tail boom on it compared to the body on the CX. the both flow somewhat equal but the CX seemed better. Also there are many more modifications that can be done to the CX than the lama ( that i know of)

also another big factor is parts availability. My 2 LHS's carry e-flite parts so i really never have any problems finding anything. most lama stuff has to be ordered on-line

Fleet of K-27 (E-sky Happy Baby coax), Lama2, Blade CP, HB CP2 x2, and Shogun x3.

The Happy Baby ($109 full kit, free US shipping) had a terrible rotor/blade so I put in the Lama2 inner/outer shafts/blades/grips/swash (cheap). It has a great frame, super COG, really strong landing skids. Have removed the terrible body, stole the Lama2's tail for it and it's cabin for it.

The Lama2 ($120) got a scale fuse & super skids...

Both Coax run on 2S E-tec 10C 700mah batts (6) & full seperates, PG-03 gyros, dual blinking, tiny, PP-5B 2S LiPo cutoff ESCs, tiny DSP 4ch RX (cheap). The 180 motors are mixed on an Optic 6 TX, revo-mix is used to keep the helis totally straight in altitude changes.

I've heard the Lama rotor system holds up better in crashes than BCX (the flybar just pops off). Typically BCX is more calibrated 4in1 from the box (if you keep it). Both heli parts are produced on the same line. Nothing too wrong with CX, but most prefer the Lama2 rotorhead, as mentioned Lama parts come from the 'net, cheap too.

A tip: Grab a black sharpie/marker and color the 180 motors all black, it'll lower the motor's temp 20-30+F (I've verified this; like car radiators). Teflon-oil works real well on the bearings/shafts. Adjust motor gear meshes for easy spin rotors. Batts go longer, motors stay cooler.

These modded helis can fly fast & furious, go hands-off without drift from the PG03 gyro, & were cheap. Money saved on E-sky helis, got extra Lipos so no waiting (2 helis, $50 MK II charger, etc).

Easy to add brushless, but not cost effective. Johnson 180 motors are dirt cheap and last awhile.

Thanks for the info.

I had a chance to toy with my friend's Lama V3 and it is way to easy to fly. With proper setup I have no doubt that it could hover without any stick input.

I also was at a LHS picking up a part for my Trex and asked them about differences and it seems to come down to getting replacement parts. Since this is so easy to fly I doubt it will need much fixing. If I end up getting 2 of them (have 2 kids), I would be saving over $120 by going with the Esky which can cover the cost of a few crashes

Hmm .. I will have to think about this..

Interesting post and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have several Helis and each has its place and each is different. I taught my student side on and nose in hovering on my CX before he attempted it on his CP. Did not take too long before he was flying nose in on his CP. The CX IMO does have its place as a training tool in conjunction with a good Sim. It is also fun on a rainy day in the shop or living room

I agree with Gary's post, I used the CX as a trining tool
as well, It taught me side in, nose in ect... and I still
fly it weekly and enjoy it!

I should note it was interesting to watch a friend fly his Lama V3 around. He flys planks and is use to controlling them. Due to this he was not really paying much attention to the tail where as I was keeping the tail in most of the time since I have yet to get very good at nose in. Now I dont think he could keep a CP in the air with his current skill level, but he could fly a dual rotor heli better than I could :P

So I think it would be a great stepping stone. I think someone could actually save alot of money by training on a BCX. I know I spent more on repairs in my 1st month with the BCP than a BCX would have cost me and I doubt I would have crashed it nearly as much. However I doubt I would have been able to build and setup my Trex as well as I did without having rebuilt the BCP countless times.

ah well .. it looks like a fun toy and I think I will have to pick one up at some point .. maybe next month

The E-Sky Lama is a better bang for the money!, I would skip the CX and grab a Lama, better FF and piro rates. Plus it is almost $100 cheaper!

-= I know there is Money in RC helicopters. I put it there=-
