Computer Flight Simulators > What video card are you guys using with XTR ?

Hey guys,
I have a new Dell computer but when I run XTR I sometimes get a real choppy appearance. This makes it hard to fly.
I know what XTR recommends but I would like to know what else will work.

Nvidia 6800 or an ATI 9800 will run it fine.

I'm running a GForce 6200 OC AGP with 256 meg on board. 2.66 P4 CPU and 768MB of ram. I get almost consistent 75 Frames Per Second.
If you are not getting at least 30 FPS then you are definetly underpowered. You just might have the integrated video card on your PC. You probably have a slot to add a new vid card and that is what it will take to get good video from XTR or G3. Good luck.

Does your comp use AGP or PCIE?

Mines AGP and I used an ATI Radeon 9550/256 at first and it ran XTR sufficiently well matching framerate to my monitor's refresh rate (75fps).
Now I'm using an ATI Radeon x850pro/xt which gives stellar performance.

Run XTR in full screen mode with V-sync for best performance.
You can also turn down your 3D settings in Windows.

I have a 128meg ati agp. I can run full screen at 60 fps with no issues. My computer is almost 6 years old too. I was surprized I didn't have to upgrade.

Radeon 9600 works great.

I guess i'm a bit spoiled. I use a Geforce 7800GTX with a Centrino 2Ghz and 1gig of ram, and i get a consitant 301 frames per sec!

Did you try and un-check the V-Sync then run it full screen (non-window mode) that should help. I had that problem until I went to a 128 meg card and the turning off the V-Sync helped.

What and where is V-sync?

V-sync locks the XTR programs framerate to the one you have on your monitor (approx 60-85) and never goes above that, if you disbale V-sync the XTR fps goes as high as it can.

Found on one of the dropdown menus to the right (dont remember the name and sitting at work cannot check either) but there you can also choose allot of different resolutions....

I have run XTR on a few different machines.. 9500 Pro 128mb, 9600 XT 256mb, 9800 XT 256MB. All maintain very good FPS, and have excellent quality. VSync is very important if you do not want visual artifacting and tearing in your simulation. Yes, if you turn it off you get higher FPS, but at the cost of tearing and artifacts. Vsync will not allow your video card to display a FPS higher than what the monitor's refresh rate is set at.

Ex. If your monitor is set at 60hz refresh rate, vsync will hold a FPS at 60 if you video card can handle it, and if it's off the video card will output as many FPS as it can physically handle. Suggestion, turn your refresh rate up, and turn vsync on. If your still having trouble either lower the full screen resolution, or lower the reflex panorama resolution. Just my 2¢

My GF4 Ti4600 128 MB runs great at 85 fps on a P4 2.4 512 and outputs to two monitors. They must be almost free now if you can still find one.
