oops, its good to hear you went for it man! flying an rc heli has been a dream of mine also since i was a small kid. finally a month ago i went out and bought a blade cp. i had absolutely no previous experience with any kind of flying rc aircraft. i know just about everyone here will tell you to go for a sim and use training gear. ive been doing the complete opposite. after one month ive learned to hover it pretty well and do some basic flying around here and there without any sim or training gear (ok i did use FMS for about 5 minutes the first day but not since then, all that did was teach exactly what the stick movements did). so far all my crash damage expenses have been less than buying some computer sim, and i dont even crash too often anymore. i just took it easy and was extremely careful (oh yeah i bought a pair of those plasti blades for the blade cp which definately save some money). so anyway, i guess it all depends. the only time i plan on getting a sim is when im good enough to maybe learn inverted flying. thats one thing i wouldnt try until practicing it on a sim first.

do you fly indoor or outdoor?

i'm just wondering does anyone ever have experience flying indoor with carpet floors and experience the helicopter glitching on you?

Glitching

I've flown my CP indoors and on several occasions have had glitches. So did everyone else on their CP's at one time or another. Mostly they were in the gymnasium. Freq checker confirmed no one else on the same freq. Someone said maybe flourescent lights? Power lines under floor? Who knows?

Best bet if possible is fly outside in early a.m. or evening when winds die down...to nothing. I've never had glitches outside. Any amount of breeze can throw you for a loop though. . I personally find more space allows more relaxing and better flying. Now that spring is here the grass isn't as hard on blades as ice and snow!
