I have watched a few videos today and noticed that some people like to hold the stick with just there thumb and other use thumb and forefinger, I was just wondering which method was best.

Neither way is better, it's a matter of personal preference. Just try both and do what feels better for you.

I am a newby...the 'pinch' method (thumb and finger) feels more confortable and secure to...especially when you are shaking all over you don't want a shake thumb to throw the collective..

what worked for me is to go and just fly without even thinking about it....after you land look at your fingers, and that's the best way. you'll subconsciously put them in the most comfortable spot while flying. hope you understood that.

Thumbs just came automatically. Wouldn't have even thought about pinching except that I've seen other people do it.

neither is better but if you use thumb and forefinger you can be more precise and if you use just your thumbs you can reach the extremes better.

i personally use thumbs but am learning to use thumb an forefinger

use which ever feels comfortable to you.

hmmmmm. I use my thunb for the left stick (throttle/rudder) and use my index and thumb pinch method on the right stick (cyclyc)

This is "one" subject that really qualifies for a search....you would be surprised at how much info there is on RR regarding the pinch vs thumb methods.

Saw a kid on a video, no arms. He flew sitting down using his toes...I guess it's all what you get used to, huh?

Flew better than me, and I use finger and thumb...

Whatever feels most natural. There are pros and cons for each.
The pinch method tends to be preferred by most pilots as it is believed to be more accurate. One major benefit of pinching is that you won't loose the sticks when doing lots of stirring as in chaos for example. It also depends on your hand size because pinching requires the 1st and 2nd fingers to be spread considerably. Another disadvantage as i see it is that pinching demands far more muscular dexterity than thumbs only, so in theory, you can achieve faster response with thumbs. I find thumbs require a far more natural hand position as it assumes a posture being that of the hands when relaxed and the only issue I've ever had is the thumbs winding themselfes off the top of the sticks during constant stirring. This could be avoided by applying more pressure, but that's counterproductive with respect to sensitivity. I've found keeping the stick heads sharp is the best fix as I use very little pressure.

What ever is best for you, i am a thumb guy myself, they do say finger and thumb is more accurate though.

If it's cold and you wear gloves the thumb grip is warmer cos it's the only digit cut out!

Why simplify when it's simpler to complicate.

Thumbs gives me better control for choppers, and I use pinch method for planks.
