Hi thinking of flippin my hornet over, I have heard that some people glue the main hub to the mainshaft solid over that rubber ring that acts as an oring. My question is do i need to do that if whant to do fast rools and flipps without gluing the hug or will i get a boom stike and crash?

I wondered the same thing when I built my hornet and ended up gluing mine before I ever flew it just to be safe because I was also concerned about the rubber dampers staying put with nothing to hold them in place. Gluing the bottom damper in place helped ease my mind about them maybe falling out and the boom strike issue as well. Having never flown mine without gluing it first, I can't say if it's really necessary or not. My thought is that for aerobatics, stiffer is better anyways?

This is what I did:
Stiffen up the rubber O-rings (head bushing/suspension). Wrap exactly 2 turns thin tape around the head fitting that the O-rings sit around (E074). This reduces the head and blade slop and makes it more difficult to have a boom strike when inverted or hard maneuvering, particularly if your rotor rpm drops very low. Remember to secure the bottom O-ring with a small amount of CA glue on small screw driver.

Here is what I did.... (credits to FIT and TAT)


1)Find thicker O-rings... try to fit them in. I think u can find them in hardware stores... if all else fails... search deetee.

2)find a 7mm OD 6mm ID alu tube... cut off around 3-4mm length of it so u have a nice ring. This part will be used to prop the rubber rings up...

3) get an extra 3mm ID wheel collar...

4) Now fit everything as per normal and before u connect the swash slip in the alu ring, use it to prop up ur thicker O-rings and use the wheel collar to secure.... Higher = stiffer, lower= more teeter...



We have been using it long before MS came up with its alu upgrade centre hub....

I use thicker O rings that are used in automotive air conditioning. The ones used for r134 systems are green in color and have worked well for me.
Blade-X, I like the tube idea, I'm going to try that. Good tip.

The green O rings I use are from automotive airconditioning, late model cars/trucks. The ones used on the high pressure side are the size you would look for. I had a repair shop and would buy a "kit" of about a dozen sizes. They are spendy, close to $1 each retail. I can't find the part # i used right now. I did find my part # for O rings on a T-Rex. HPI Racing #6819, hard, red, silicone O rings, 5 to pack.
If you take a sample O ring to a autoparts store they should beable to match it. Tell them you want a O ring used with R134 refrigerant. I'm pertty sure R134 is a world wide standard for late model systems.

I just finished my own third hornet (i've built alot for friends too)

I used four o rings instead of three and i used an extra collar (the one that goes below the swash to hold the mainshaft in place)

I put the extra collar under the hub to put pressure on the fourth o ring. This way you don't have to glue anything and you have controlleable damping...

I've never actually glued the stock hub as i use the blue cnc stuff on my main hornet...i think the damping now, with the collar trick, can be about as hard maximum as the blue cnc stuff out of the box. Pretty hard but not solid...i fly the blue pieces (which also feature adjustable damping) almost solid
