I'm going to replace my GWS RX with a 4ch Berg. Directions say to use a Dubro whip antenna. I'm trying not to buy a bunch of stuff before I even fly this thing. What's the best way to mount the existing antenna wire, or should I get the whip antenna?

If you look at the tail fin, you will see two small holes. These holes are intended for the antenna if you are not using the whip.
Just lace the end of your wire antenna into the hole closest to the front of the heli and then lace it though the other hole. Make sure not too much is hanging from the second hole, otherwise the wire may get caught in the tailrotor. Now pull it taught and secure the wire at the crutch with a tiewrap. Wrap the excess around an antenna bobin or a half inch by one inch piece of cardboard and tiewrap it to the crutch.

Geez, I had bad luck with a whip antenna (Dean's)...I'm using a Hitec Micro 555 Receiver and I would get glitches all the time trying to run the receiver wire to the rear of the crutch and have the whip antenna sticking out the back. Now, I just let the receiver wire hang down from the nose in flight about 30 inches and it never runs near the motor or ESC and I'm glitch free....

I also tried looping the receiver wire around the right skid to make it neater, but I got a glitch while 10-15 feet up and down she went....so, it's better for me to let the wire hang down....

The 555's are usually so reliable. I don't think I've ever had a single glitch with mine. Same with the Bergs. Rock solid. Of course I have the advantage of flying in a location where there is very little interference.

I guess I'll just have to experiment and see what a range check looks like using 2 or 3 different methods of attachment.

Got my new batteries yesterday...3500 NIMH's. They seem to weigh a ton, but I guess that's not a bad thing in a way. Should help with stability for first flights. Gotta build me some training gear.

Looks like my maiden will be this weekend sometime!
