e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Blade CP+ or CX? Have TrexSE but want In-door Fun Fly

Folks,

I was about to pick up a Blade CX just to have something fun to fly in-doors w/out much care for crash etc... I tried one out at a hobby shop and found it to be super easy - perhaps too easy (I can hover 30 sized and my Trex like a champ).

Demila - I want something that I don't have $1,000 into like Trek but also don 't want to get bored with it. So I'm trying to figure out if I should get the CX or get the CP? Out of the box is the CP a bunch of setup like my SE - or is it similar to the CX in terms of hover out of the box as long as you know how to hover?

check a few threads down on the CP Pro...you might want to wait and get that...but I would say the cp instead of the cx. Cp will hover out the box.

CX here's why

If you mean in your house, the CX is the right choice. If you have access to a gym or other large building, the CP is best.

The CX has a much smaller main blade disk size. This makes it much better in small buildings.

If you need 3D inside, the CP is your only choice between the CP and CX.

I have a CX and an ARK/Helimax X400 (same size as a T-rex). This is a good combo for inside/back yard/local park flying.

Good Inbetween COPTER-

Gotcha - point well taken. I started reading about the CP's... and see that folks start in on the upgrading from day one. Looks like the radio is one of the first upgrades people do - so they can set rates etc... In my case I want to NOT have to pull out my 14MZ to fly a little bitty heli... I'm ok hauling my 14mZ box around to fly the REX - but thought how nice it would be to use a small plastic controller w/no config for a change.

So Question about the CX - Any good upgrades that can be or should be done out of the box - I was counting on picking up a 2nd battery - should I get an additional stock battery or ..?

Im not trying to put you to the Cp , but wonder what your looking for in the little heli that your after without getting bored with it?I was going to get the cx for my first heli but everyone says you will outgrow it way to fast. That was just for a first heli, I never got the cx so cant say what it will do.Only my opinion, you will get alot more helpful advice when a few more people get on here tonight.and you still didnt say if you mean in the house or not.

Well - If I thought I could buy the CP and use it like the CX (Un Box - Hover) - fly in-doors and use it as stock I'd be more tempted to go with the CP. I like the idea of flying the tail - as it might make me a better Trex or Fury pilot.

BUT - I have read that the CP requires a bit of setup - and will never really fly as stable as the CX out of the box (From LHS) - not sure I believe this but...

IE - How much work is it to get the CP to fly like the CX in-doors - if it requires me to get a crystal so I can use my 14MZ then I'm not sure I want to go that route - but if I can use the stock radio w/out mixing to get the heli stable that would be great.

I have a CX and its my first heli. I have flown it indoors and out (with no breeze) and its a great beginner heli. Since you are an experienced flyer you may want to consider the CP. I have had my CX for two months and often fly it from the couch while watching TV. I don't think I could do this with the CP. As a matter of fact I am going to be listing my CX on ebay shortly so I can upgrade to a CP simply because I am bored with it. If you do get a CX, I would suggest that you get the AC adapter for the charger,a heat sink for the motorsf and an extra battery or two.

I can hover them out the box like nothing.bought one for my girlfriend and my buddy bought one.I think for the most part of guys going to the tx of their choice is cause they have other helis and use same tx for all of them.

I cant say its as stable as a cx in hover cause I never seen one in action. But my cp will hover hands off for a few seconds(outside in mild wind) if that helps.

Alot of statements of people saying flying the tail on a cp helped when they moved up to trex or other helis.

If you're flying a t-rex, you're gonna find a CX pretty darned boring pretty darned fast! I know a lot of people will take exception to that, but mine's nothing much more than a decoration sitting on my computer desk. BORING!!!!

If you're talking about indoor in a gym, get a CP or similar. If you're talking about indoors in your living room, save your money and buy another battery or two for your T-rex.

No flame intended to anyone...just my opinion based on flying the CX.

cheers

Bouncing about the living room, my then three year old grandson declared himself "a kangaroo".
"If you're a Kangaroo, what is Grampie", I ask.
His reply:  "you a dinosaur"

I am a total newb, I've had a heli since x-mas and got a cp. I tried a cx for 5 minutes today and was bored in that time. Going down a set of stairs would be intresting but that would be it.

I have an ION, Swift and a couple T-Rex SE's. I got a CX a few weeks ago and I think it's a blast. Granted you can't fly inverted but for playing around in the house it's great fun.

I think you'd be pushing it flying a CP indoors, but if you're very good at hovering you might be able to pull it off.

I don't think it would ever be as stable as the CX - that thing is rock solid (which is part of what makes it boring). But it's not the nightmare to set-up right that you might think from reading here. Remember that a very large % of new blade CP owners are also first time heli owners - myself included. So things like adjusting the linkages from the servos to the swashplate to trim it properly can seem daunting to us (myself included at first).

All the mods and stuff about changing transmitters - just ways to try to push the performance of it. I'm flying mine stock (I'm still learning - just getting into fast forward flight), and it's a very capable beast... I can keep it pretty stable even with my limited experience, so you probably could do much better.

A lot of us talk about buying parts, also because we're new at this. It cost me a ton of money in the first two weeks, because I couldn't fly for sht. Now I've got way more control and I've gone through a ton of batteries without replacing a thing.

The only upgrades I think you might go for straight out of the box would be a lipo and the aerobatic upgrade kit (which includes a lipo-friendly pinion on the motor, heat sinks, and symmetric blades).

Having said all that, I still think the CX looks pretty cool. I half considered picking one up, myself, for playing "land on the inverted coffee mug" and "cargo transport" games in my living room

Guess only way to really know is to buy one and see....

Walt - good info. It appears that the concensus is that a cx will be great for the living room - a cp would be a strech and a SE would be asking for a divorce. Looks like my Heli addiction is just starting - I have thrown $200 away many times before in Hobbies - so buying the cx only to find out I out-grow it in days won't be the first time :-)

I agree with lowandslow. I flew my buddies (who is a 3d stud)and it was a blast to play with. I thought this would be great to fly in the house so i have on on order. Yes I have 3 nitros but you deserve a break sometimes.
I looked on eBay last week and good used ones bring as much as new ones!

Get the cp I fly mine indoors all winter and now that it's getting nice out I'm in the small backyard with having a ball. I have a rex also but it's alot of cash to be banging around with. I had my tail rotor die yesterday while 30' up, I piroetted to the ground with a landing on the skids and the only damage was the bldes got wacked by the flybar paddles. Put a new set of blades and a motor on it and it's good to go again... under $15 for a 30' high crash... great
I fly mine on my Futaba radio but I have gone back to the stock tx when the futaba needed charging and it flies just fine with it... I would go for the cheap 11.1 lipos 19.95 and charger so your flite time will be 18-23 min instead of 6-8 min on the nicads

Tom..... No "D" flying....

Blade CX -How to make more responsive? --Easy steps?

Appreciate all of the feedback - I picked up a CX - simply could not pass up the special - for $169 (OTD) I got new CX and 3 batteries - figure I can give it away at 100 in a month if I really get bored of it.

Ha - speaking of getting bored - first flight - I find that its too stable - plan to look at the links but wondering if folks have put together a "Quick List" of how to DETAME the CX?

Note - probably not the best idea to fly my TrexSE for an hour before flying my CX for the first time :-) Have not flown HDE for -- well forever.

I own a lama 2, and haven't tried it myself yet, but heard following suggestions: move linkages to the next hole out on servo arms. take out flybar weights and/or shorten the flybar. i've also seen one using hirobo lama flybar which is shorter?

congratulations on the choice.. (not knocking BCP, I have cp2 and trex also, just for messing around indoors CX is great) now you can see how many surfaces you can land on in your house. or go for the longest had's off record. i had mine flying in a pattern hands off... could have left it there till the pack ran out.
