| I think you'd be pushing it flying a CP indoors, but if you're very good at hovering you might be able to pull it off.
I don't think it would ever be as stable as the CX - that thing is rock solid (which is part of what makes it boring). But it's not the nightmare to set-up right that you might think from reading here. Remember that a very large % of new blade CP owners are also first time heli owners - myself included. So things like adjusting the linkages from the servos to the swashplate to trim it properly can seem daunting to us (myself included at first).
All the mods and stuff about changing transmitters - just ways to try to push the performance of it. I'm flying mine stock (I'm still learning - just getting into fast forward flight), and it's a very capable beast... I can keep it pretty stable even with my limited experience, so you probably could do much better.
A lot of us talk about buying parts, also because we're new at this. It cost me a ton of money in the first two weeks, because I couldn't fly for sht. Now I've got way more control and I've gone through a ton of batteries without replacing a thing.
The only upgrades I think you might go for straight out of the box would be a lipo and the aerobatic upgrade kit (which includes a lipo-friendly pinion on the motor, heat sinks, and symmetric blades).
Having said all that, I still think the CX looks pretty cool. I half considered picking one up, myself, for playing "land on the inverted coffee mug" and "cargo transport" games in my living room
