e-Lite Machines Corona > Battery selection questions

I'm waiting for a brushless Corona I just purchased off ebay. I have a couple of 2100MAH 3cell lipos that I was planning on using with this bird. Am I going to be disappointed? Should I parallel them? What can I expect in terms of the CG compared to using an 8 cell stick of CB3300 NIMH's? I'm trying to avoid buying any more batteries.

I read somewhere recently that beginners shouldn't use lipo's with heli's because of the crash issues. I have considerable experience with lipos in planes and have used them in my Blade CP with no problems.

I intend to take it easy until I can hover in all directions, so I don't expect any glamorous crashes...

Steve,

The motor will mandate the battery size as much as anything. As long as the current draw of the motor falls within the current limits of the battery you should be fine. C/G could be an issue. But I think the NiMh batteries sit directly under the C/G, if so it shouldn’t matter what size pack you use, lighter is better. I think the issue with using LiPo’s on the Corona is the potential damage from a crash!?!? If you already have a charger for NiMh’s you might be able to buy a couple cheap car battery packs, and you wouldn’t care if you crushed them.

Let use know how the project goes

Cheap Batteries

Slightly off-topic, but the cheapest place I've found for NiMH is this place, here's the page for 8-cell packs:

http://www.all-battery.com/index.as...ProdID=540&HS=1

I think that price for 2 is less than the price for 1 elsewhere.

I get ~10 mins off a 7-cell NiMH 3500 mAH and a Mega 16/15/3 brushless setup, which is more than enough for me.

Batteries for Corona

Wow....that's really cheap for NIMH's. I think I'll get a couple for the Corona after all and save the Lipo's for my planes. Thanks for the link!

ilewis33,

I agree, great link and a great price on the batteries.

I have a few heli's and plan on the Corona being my "take all risks" bird, so cheap batteries sound great
