raptor boy,
Not wanting to attack you but did it ever occur to you that not everyone wants a TRex? I have both of these Helis. They are as different as night and day. Some of us enjoy the Hobby aspect of building and modifying things. There is nothing wrong with that. The TRex is a good Heli but not the "be all and end all" to Heli flying. I have been flying TRex for over a year now. They have a habit of self destructing due to component failure!

raptor boy -

Did you see my original post when this thread started -

I've looked at other optoins for a micro - Century Hummingbird 3D Pro, Maxir, etc - on other forums and decided to go this way since I have a lot of Blade CP aand Esky spare head parts. I am very interested in the upcoming release of the "Pocket Zoom" but heard it won't be out until late summer.
My conversion will be for indoor flying since I use my MX400 outside most of the time.

I think there are a lot of people who want something with good performance that is flyable indoors - as I said that's why I'm doing it!

By the way, just got back from flying my MX400 outside and had a blast with it!! (Yes, there are alternatives to the TRex)

I took a different tack. Fried my 4in1. Could have spent $70 for the replacement or $70 custom frame......

Decided to part out/sell the heli other than the head, use that money to purchase the parts needed to complete the conversion.

I had the motor/ESC/Servos/receiver already.

Add a used GY401 (which I could use later on any heli) and suddenly Ive got a great little heli that I can fly in the same locations and use the same packs I already owned. Biggest expense on a Trex is the batteries. 10 minutes on a $60 pack when I can get 15 minutes on a $15 pack with the BCP. 50% more flight time for 1/4 the cost. Ill take that in a heartbeat.

Plus having 4 hobby shops in the area that carry BCP head parts when only 1 carries Trex parts. Sure the Trex has a lot more WOW factor, but its also an outside only flyer. Not nearly as flexible as the converted BCP.

My total outlay for the upgrade: $180 (Frame and Gyro)

Ecaf -

What do you have on the heli (motor/ESC/Servos/receiver) ?
I assume you are using the Icon frame?
How does your creation fly?

Thanks - JB

JB,

I havent built it yet. Ordered the Icon frame 2 weeks ago and Im expecting another couple of weeks before it ships.

It will have a Himax 2015 4100/9T, CC10/Dionysus glitch reducer, HS55, JR R700 receiver.

Based on Turbojoe's response over at rcgroups, it looks awesome.

Hey Ecaf.. keep us updated on your progress. I too am very interested in this frame. Sounds like you are going to have a great setup!

I have a GY240 and a CC10 laying around..thinking about following your lead on this one.

If you can take some pics along the way that would be great!

Thanks!

Stack, if he doesn't, I will. I plan on doing a step by step pictorial. I'm another one of those wierdos with a 401 lying around waiting to be put to good use. Can't wait.

Hey Aker, that would be great.

I was digging around in my "spares" boxes the other night and it is amazing how much stuff I have. I found 2 GY240s, a RAZR heli motor, CC10, and an assortment of other parts and bits.

So fun!

In all, I could probably put together 3 more helis. I wont though, I need to get rid of some of mine as it is. Plus I need to fund my Swift project, which is a little bit tough on the wallet.

Please post some videos if you can. I am really curious to see it too. I think that once someone posts some vids that these conversion will take off.. no pun intended.. lol

There's a level seven IRCHA pilot in my club, and it is already pretty amazing what he can do with my brushless honeybee. He always says the tail sucks though. :-) I can probably arrange a fairly impressive demo video if I get it setup right.

Ecaf -

My BCP mod will be similar to yours - I'm waiting for the frame kit also - I'll be using a Himax 2015 - 3600 with a 10 or 11 tooth and CC Phx10 -

Planning on setting it up in Gov mode - I have had good ops with MX400 and Mega 16/15/3 - CC Phx35 (in Hig Gov.) combo.

Could you post the link for:

Hi all,

I saw a question here about what Leslie is running. I got the beltdrive kit from iconmicro, CRB68 here. I used it to upgrade a Hummingbird Elite FP micro.

For components, I'm running: himax 2015-4100 BL motor, CC10 ESC, seeker 6 rx, and tp1320 3cell lipo.

The kit is VERY well made, there are build notes and pictures on my gallery.

The flying characteristics are great. The bird is now spooky quiet. I love getting rid of that dang tail motor and ESC.

I like have a solid bird for mainly indoor flying, being in New Hampshire the cold weather lingers alot longer than I would like.

... and yes I have a couple trex's too but I love my little guys!

Cheers,
Leslie

I just ordered one of the IconDesign kits myself this week.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, and to slowly building up the ultimate little indoor Heli.

I have been wanting to get one of this frames but I have not heard much about it yet. I am affraid that I may be buying somtheing will not work with the bcp head, shaft and one way bearing: I read this on the previous post:
"have hit a snag. The E-Sky Bell/Hiller mod I used won't work. The main rotor needs to run backwards for the blades to change pitch properly. As it is I have the swash operating backwards. Raising the swash was giving negative pitch and vice versa. I can't reverse motor direction because the kit uses the one way autorotate gear from the 3D Pro. I don't know if the E-Flight B/H will work backwards too"

Icon Tail kits

Ecaf and everybody else -

Anyone get their tail drive kits yet? If so, please post when you're building and flying - I'm still waiting for my tail kit, but everything else is here and ready for a new home in the Icon Razor Blade.

Hasnt arrived yet. He got a little behind with his orders. As soon as I get it, I will do a build/review thread. Be ready for tons of pictures.

Gonzo,

I never fully understood the problem, I think the issues he was having was with a part BCP part CP2 head. I will be installing a complete eflite B/H head so there shouldnt be a problem.

That's good to know. I'll switch to an e-flight head if I have to. I guess James, the guy making the kit, ran into a snafu with the carbon fiber supply, which put him a bit behind. He emailed me late last week and mentioned that he was just finishing up mine.
