Here are a couple of pictures of my Kalt Whisper, with fiberglass Huey Cobra fuselage. For more pictures, please visit my webpage. For video clips of it in flight, please visit Augusto's RC helicopter video server.

Thanks, Naomi! The clips don't have sound because I took them with my digital still camera (Olympus 3020), in movie mode, and my camera doesn't have a microphone. Sorry

I'll have to borrow my Dad's camera and get a movie with sound - the sound of the electric motor makes it sound like it has a turbine, and the slow blade speed (probably about 1000 rpm) makes it look and sound pretty realistic. Still needs a pilot figure, though...

No, no, that was several Whispers ago. That crash was way back in 1991, and almost everything broke. I think the mainframes were in about 20 pieces. I swore I'd never buy another Whisper because they are so fragile, but I really wanted to build up a small Cobra, so I finally ate mud and bought another one (it's the only mechanics that will fit the fuse).

I didn't want to add much detail because I'm trying to keep the weight down. The fuselage added quite a bit of weight - the mechanics with all of the radio gear - except for the battery - weighs 1.8 pounds. The battery weighs 1 pound. The fuse adds about another half pound, so I'm pretty lucky that this thing gets off the ground at all, especially at 5500'. If I have the batteries up to snuff, I get about 3 minutes of gentle forward flight, and about 2 minutes of labored hovering.

I'm pleased with it - it's just what I wanted. A little Cobra to cruise around the sky with. No agressive flying (hey, it's a small electric with a heavy fuse and I'm at 5000' - what could I expect??), but it sure looks cool zipping around!

Nice work Eric.. who make that Cobra fuselage of the whisper.. Whisper not the really best e-heli compare to E-Voyager or hornet.. it's a rather old e-heli, it doesn't have much duration in flight. But it's nice to have a little cobra in the whisper is neat!.

Both the Whisper and the Huey Cobra fuse were manufactured by Kalt, and both are no longer in production (since 5 or more years ago). The Whisper is actually a pretty smooth flying machine, due to the dual flapping rotor head. It's main disadvantage is that it is very fragile. The mainframe is pretty flimsy, and gains some rigidity after you bolt in the servos!

The Voyager (I'm sure) flies with much more authority. The advances in electronics and battery technology have radically improved the capability of electric helis (and even made micro helis like the Piccolo & Hornet a reality) in just a few short years. The Whisper was one of the best performing electrics of it's time, and now is marginal by comparison.

I like the Cobra and wanted a model of it - this Whisper turned out to be a good project! Kalt also made an Agusta 109 fuse for the Whisper.

Well, on to my next project... a Raptor 46 powered Mi-24 Hind (finished in sport scale, of course). See my gallery for a pic of that fuse - it's one of the pics near the bottom...

Yeah, the canon is made from a few Lego pieces. I was in a hurry to get this flying for a Fun Fly, and had just painted the fuselage the night before. The morning of the Fun Fly, I realized that I now had a Gunship - without a gun! Well, that just wouldn't do, so I took a couple Legos, fashined a canon, and glued them onto the turret. Voila - Instant Gunship -with- Gun! The Legos looked pretty convincing, so I left them on the helicopter.
