whats the most powerful heli engine or engine that any of ya have squeezed into a heli?

for unmodified engines there are these I'm considering
Rossi claims 3.5 hp for their 65 at some high rpms.
Nelsons 40s for pylon will do @3hp at freaky rpms (29k, freakier than df 46s)
an os 91df will put out 4.5 to 5 hp (one of the few os motors w/o "warranty", cool!)...hmmm much past this, I don't think even the most bad@ss rotorhead or any blade will be safe in 60 size

yo furious ken, does the FAI still have the .60ci/5kg limit?

I never heard of anybody that had one but Jett makes a heli engine and their plane engines are used a lot for top speed stuff, if anybody has one I would like to know what you think of it.

You would need some very tall gearing to run the DF motors in a heli.

I imagine stuff would start to depart from the heli around 2200 RPM. So you'd need at least a 11-12/1 ratio. At that point... why?

Fly a heli with an big block OS or YS engine geared properly.... it's all you need.

FAI rules allow the 91 OS.

Yamaha has a really interesting R/C Heli motor, I would guess that it puts out around 40-45hp.

I lost my infamous tag line.

FAI RULES

The FAI allows the 90s in the secheduled manuevers for aerobatic competition, BUT, the speed record section only recognizes the 10cc max displacement.

Did you get the rules I sent?

hey ken! the rules didnt go through, I sent you a few emails from that acct too and I'm not sure if they went through either. its a p!sser.

raptordriver doesn't get it yet 3.5-4hp may break the current record, but it wont keep the "unofficial"! 10cc eh, that rossi 65 would have been a nice bolt-in.

What 61 in a 30????

Only kidding.

Geo,

I did some loops and rolls with it, but quite honestly, a modified 61 in a Raptor is not the most reliable way to go.

A good quick push pull (tic-toc) what ever you want to call it was pretty violent as the engine does not even think about sagging.

I am much much happier with my OS 50 powered Raptor as compared to any other machine for 3D.

This year I plan to build another 60/30 using the new V2 50 mechanics and a stock tuned .61 WITH A GV-1. It should be everything I want for performance flying, but my 3D stuff will be with a 50 powered raptor.

Yes Furious

Yes the Rap 50 is No1
The Profi MB 40 is probably the most powerful. It uses an Aluminum bronze rod in it
I guess it would just waste aly

Jett Engine

I had two jett heli engines, 46 and a 70(SOLD 2 YR AGO) this was about 3-4 years ago. I had a 70 in a xcell pro modified to fit the huge engine. I don't recommend the 70 unless you want to do redo the frames. I don't know if the 70 will fit the new helis. The Jett 70 is not the same form factor as the OS or YS. I don't know if Jett made any changes. The head was longer so I had to extend the frames for the pro.

The 70 with the jett muffler is loud and super strong. I wouldn't doubt if the 70 can hang with the 90 size engine. The jett was pulling 13 degrees on NHP with no problems and still had power to spare. The head speed was around 2000 on a 95 main gear. I ran this engine hard and I didn't have any problems. Why did I sell it because of the the frame modifications. I couldn't just go out and buy a frame I had to get it made and my contact did not want to make the carbon frames for me anymore. I have the drawings of the modified xcell pro if anyone is interested.

The 46 I have, was running in a TSK 5star. No modifications for this setup I will try to put into a raptor and see what happens. This engine runs strong and hard when I had it in my TSK. It's not your regular os engine. As with the 70 it get some time to get used to running this engine hot. I ran this engine against a 46 at that time and it didn't have any problems. I would have to say it would have a good fight with a 50.

So my conslusion if I had time I wouldn't hesitate to run another Jett Engine but the only reservation I have is the form factor.
