I use the FRomeco 4800 and pin flag regulator on both of my helis, trust me they r tops. THeir service is as good and Bergens too. I get on average 35 flights of 8 minutes before chargin. U tell me lol

I have ordered Duralite system with 4,000 mAh and 5.1 v regulator.
It would be okay with this set up? I am using GY 611 so I am affraid using 5.3 regulator.

Thanks & regards,

An excellent system that will serve you well. I use the same on my Turbine, with the exception of a 5.3 regulator.

Chris,

Are you using a Futaba tail servo with 5.3V?

PS - Thanks for the ongoing help with my gasser build. So far so good.

I am a little new to this but trying to learn from everyone. I was wondering the reason for not wanting a 5.3 instead of 5.1 regulator with the GY 611? Thanks.

My opinion and the reason I use the 5.1v is that it's just a bit closer and safer to the 4.8v only units, servos, etc.

I use the Duralites with a 5.8V regulator with my 601/9251 setups and have never had a bit of trouble with any of them.

Has Futaba changed the voltage tolerences/limitations with the 611 or something that I missed?

Malorie,

This is from the Tower site "The GY601 can only be used at 4.8V, higher voltage may damage the gyro." Most of the Futaba's are listed at 4.8V, so I have been using that as standard for all Futaba's. Never tried anyhing higher, but if it works for you why not.

If that's what they're saying, then I suppose it could void a warrentee running it at the higher voltages.

I'm fairly certain that a few other pilots I know are also running the 5.8V Duralite regulators on the 611 without any trouble.

If I recall from way-back discussions about the 601. It's good up to 6V but you definately don't want anything higher than that. I think that's why Duralite is tuning their regulators to 5.8V. It leaves a bit of headroom for voltage fluctuations. BTW, the 5.1V Duralite regulator can be tuned up to 5.8V. There is a potentiometer on it that adjusts the voltage output. The 5.8V regulator can be tuned from about 5.4V up to about 6.5V if I recall from my last tweeking session.

Whatever you decide, best of luck. The 601 is a great gyro in any case, and I'm sure the 611 is following suite.

Duralite size.

For my Intrepid EB gasser I am going to order a Duralite 4000 mah and 5.1 regulater with switch. Just wondering of any possible size issues reagrding the square 4 cell. The flat 4 cell would be too wide would it not?

I put the flat 4000mah in my EB and had to tuck it back most of the way on the package tray. I wish I'd have gone with the square just to be able to move it forward a bit more. Could have shaved a bit more lead off the nose.

And, aren't you supposed to be flying that heli by now?

Square it is.

Thanks for the input. Unless someone else pipes up, I'll go with a square 4000 mah Duralite with 5.1 regulator/switch. I did notice the flat 4000 mah is 3" wide - as is the widest portion of the bat tray on the EB Intrepid. Thought it might be tight fit.

I just wasn't sure if there were any issues with the square 4000mah once the build is complete. How many flights are you getting out of your set-up before a charge is necessary?

Yep it would be nice to fly this thing. Can't wait. Between a baby daughter, work related trips and a wife wanting reno's- I've been a busy boy Not to mention me being fussy/paranoid 1st timer about the build. Seems I continuously take 3 steps fwd and 1 step(sometimes2) backwards! Chris Bergen has been great about clearing up all questions. Inevitably, a day or two later I'll stumble across previous posts with the same questions I'm PM'ing Chris with. Sorry Chris!

Sad but I knew when I started in this that I would be a while building. It's been great learning and I'm certainly getting to know the machine well. My original plans were to be flying 1st flight by this fall. still trying to stick to that. If I can squeak it in earlier then great!

Rob

I haven't flown it more than 4 times on a charge just because the weather has been so miserable. Now that things are improving, I'm hoping to get more time on her. I was supposed to shoot a job this weekend but the UPS guy let me down and didn't deliver my t/r gearbox. Guess I should have paid the overnight fees.
I hear you about being pulled in many directions. What with setting up with Spartan RC, trying to get the AP side going and the time away that my regular job requires it sure doesn't leave much for my fun either. Fortunately, my 'baby girl' is 8 so I'm off the hook there Sure do keep you hopping though, don't they?

The flat or the sqare pack will work fine. I run the 4000 flat pack in all my Bergens. It fits nicely on the front tray with no problem

Flat packs & time.

Thanks Mark. Thanks Gary.

Good to know the 4 cell flats do fit ok. Anyone else care to comment on average am't of flights on Duralite 4000mah set-up. I unerstand it will vary depending on flying. Thanks.
