Bergen R/C Helicopters > Vblades with Gasser

I am considering a Bergen Gasser (non EB) and want to order a set of Vblades while they still have a sale this month. Just not sure which blades, paddles and tail would be best. There are a lot of options with Vblade. Would 710's or 720's be best? What root size? What tail size? This would not be used for heavy lifting, but mild 3D.

On the standard gasser you will find the 710's with the 105 tails will be best. The 720's will work but you will find the 710's quicker I have run the 110 tails on the standard gasser but they are a little to quick for my liking

Just to clarify. Would it be 710 with 105 tail and 90 paddle. 720 with 110 tail and 95 paddle.

The bigger paddles will give you a quicker roll rate, Imho the 110's are alitte much on the standard gasser. It just depends on your flying style either will work.

What are my options for a canopy? Does Bergen offer any painted canopies? I think it was Malorie who said they somtimes have painted canopies available. I am definitly more mechanical than artisitc.

What are you guys using for a throttle servo? I was planning on just using a S9001. Will this work ok with a GV1 and stator gator.

Before I changed my bergen to and EB, I used vblades 710s with 105s on the tail. Its a great combo that Bergen and Gary recommended. On my GV-1 I use a JR 537 Standard digital.

Oh sweeeet! This is gonna be some fun now!!

Keep us up to date. Take your time, build it true and straight. It may take a little longer, especially with a young'un, but in the end you'll be glad you did.

It flies!! Thanks for the help Chris. One problem though it barely fits in my car. This thing is huge. I had it hovering in the back yard the other day. Tomorrow it goes to the field. Just need to tune the engine, finish setting up the tail and the GV-1. Chris the gear ratio is 6.43 right? I am planning on 1650 normal, 1750 idle 1 and 1850 idle 2 with the V-Blades 710mm. Does this sound right?

Sounds exactly right!!

Set your needles at 1 3/8 to start out (there are no factory settings on the needles!), set your 50% throttle curve at appx 35%, and pick her up into a hover...

Don't use the governor until you get the engine tuned in, it can mask a poorly tuned engine until it's too late.

Make sure those batteries are charged, this thing flies a looong time on a tank of fuel!

Preflight it, checking all bolts and attachments, wiring and servo screws.....

Oh, and don't forget to ENJOY it!!

Do you mean that at mid point on the throttle curve the carb should be 35% open?

Don't look at the carb. Looking at your throttle curve in the radio, set the halfway (midstick/50%) point to 35%.

This is just a starting point to get you off the ground without an extremely high headspeed. It will certainly need to be adjusted to get the desired headspeed of 1650, but it will be close.

Stupid question but I would hate to wreck my nice new canopy. Are the rubber grommets supposed to be used with a fiberglass canopy? If so is it safe to enlarge the holes in the canopy with a standard wood drill bit?

Yes you use the grommets with the fiberglass canopy,be careful enlarging the holes and put a drop of CA on the inner side to keep them secure.
