e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > 3D Pro setup on Futaba 9C?

Any help with this before I kill myself with this little Ginsu knife? I've got two badly bruised fingers now from the heli biting me after I changed the swash setting with it powered up. I know, it was stupid on my part to change anything with the battery connected.

What I want to know is if the swash should be set for something other than SR-3 like my T-Rex is? Which swash settings are negative or positive in your setup?

it's ok to change things with the battery connected. questionable leaving the motor plugged in tho

sorry, dont have a 9c or i'd help you out more.

but, i do know your base swash setting will be the same as the trex...as they are both 120° CCPM...whatever your radio calls it...that's the one you want.

after you confirm the swash tilts the right way for each cyclic input (reversing servos in the TX as needed), then you just adjust the pitch swash mix to make the collective go up on throttle stick up. if it's +50 and it goes down, then change it to -50.

make sense?

if it ain't broke…break it.

Hi Joe,

I fly w. a JR TX, so I can't comment on the exact settings in the radio. Ultimately, however, the correctness of the radio setup shows in the motion of the servos; i.e. I don't usually worry about exactly what numbers are in the TX program, just how the servos move.

If your T-Rex is flying well, then you've got a great reference point to work from. You want the motion of the swash to be identical for the TRex and the 3dpro for a given TX stick input.

I usually:
- start with a blank program, and choose a 3 servo swashplate setup,
- connect the radio gear (i.e. servos in the correct channels), but don't connect the motor leads (so it doesn't bite you)
- move the collective/throttle up/down and ensure all servos move in the correct direction together
- reverse directions for those servos that dont' travel in the right direction
- verify that the cyclic outputs match inputs (e.g. right roll makes right servo go down and left servo go up, and aft elevator makes the front servos go up and the elevator/rear servo travel down)

Hope it helps,
SteveR

I used Heli SR-3 for swash type.
Under swash AFR:
AIL: -50%
ELE: +50%
PIT: +50%

Thanks Kenny. I never thought to ask you. I wasn't sure what radio you used when you had the bird.

I thought I knew better than to change anything in the TX with the aircraft powered up. I guess I didn't. My fingers are still throbbing from the blade hits yesterday. I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose a finger nail from this little lapse of judgement.

Kenny,

I just got it into a few hovers after throwing it together. All I've done so far is level the swash (kinda). I've done nothing at all with blade tracking, servo throws etc. Even the gyro hasn't been set up yet and it still hovers extremely stable in the living room. Once I get it all properly adjusted and trimmed out this may actually turn out to be the baby T-Rex I'm looking for.

I thought it flew well myself. I just needed to sell it so I can buy parts for my T-Rex, mainly a battery or two. I hope your fingers heal quickly that really had to hurt!
What motor did you put in it? Oh yeah this rerazors old bird in case you wanted to know.
I flew my Raven for the first time this year. Wow what a machine in comparison to the T-Rex so stable yet will roll and flip on command. The bad part, the part I like about these electrics, the clean up! I spent at least an hour cleaning it, but I wanted to check things over good after the first flight of the season though.
Good luck and enjoy the 3D Pro! Watch those fingers!
