Hi all.
Have anyone ever used a flexable tail drive and if you have please
give me your comments as to the pros and cons.

I am building an Apache wah64 longbow and may possibly use
a flexy drive.
YOUR COMMENTS PLEASE.

Thanks Roy

from what I've heard you're better of with a gear case angled drive. If it's a big bird you really need a good solid tail drive, I've seen the small 30 sizze with wire drives work OK but they don't have a lot of money tied up in them either.

On the Magic Models(Firebirds)AH64s they used a speedometer cable from some European car that is bigger diameter than the standard type. They ran it inside Teflon tubing with clamps.

hey trytofly!

i have an old graupner bell 212 that i modified by installing century's hawk 30 inside. for the tail drive system, i went to my discount auto parts store and got a speedometer cable. this system has been working flawlessly for me. century's ah-64 fuselage(no longer available) came with a flexcable which worked quite well. the gearbox route offers no flexing in the system when used with a tube drive but allignment is important as well as it is also a bit costly. the cable route is easy if you keep things lubricated. before cutting the cable, i silver soldered the spot so there is no fraying of the cable while cutting. if u have any questions email at copterdoctor@aol.com
hope this helps..................emile

A BIG THANKS

Thank you to all that replied.
Yes its a big bird at about 69inches but with a very narrow upright tail
and very little room to work in ime finding it allmost imposible to line up a gearbox to both drive angles .so thats why ime looking at a flexy drive.
Any more comments please.

Hey Roy I use a flex drive in my Huey and Cobra they work well only prob is they work your Gyro from winding and unwinding, if I had to do it all again I would go 42 deg gearbox with shaft drive cost more but better performance Mac

it's time to kick the skids and light the fire's

The gearbox is the way to go, especially if you adapt one of the torque tubes with the dogbone ends and couplers like Miniature has. That makes alignment a much less "big deal". I supplied this system with my scale kits and it works very well.
