e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Darn Blade Grips

How the heck do you get the Blade Grips off??? I broke the ball off one and can not remove it. Here is what I've done.
1. removed both rotor blades
2. Tried putting allen wrench in center of both blade grips, they will not budge, in fact all I've managed to do is round the ends of both allen wrenches.

So what am I not doing right??? I'd really like to try to fly my CP again.

I ended up having to buy a 1.5mm allen and used the one that came with the heli. Its a good idea to buy the 1.5 becuase its much easier to loosen the loctite and its easier to remove other parts on the heli like the blades.

Some of this may sound stupid but hey its a process of elimination..
1.) Are you turnng the wrenches the right way?
2.) Did you use loctite the last time you worked on it?
3.) If worse comes to worse and you are replacing the blade grips anyways, you could slot the top of the bolt and makie it into a norma flat head screwdriver slot.

This is the first time I've worked on it, in fact I've only ran 4 batteries thru it. I'm a newbie (explains it all, huh? haha) I just got it last Monday.

I was using the allen wrench that came with it, also another one I have thats the same size.

I was turning both wrenches counter clockwise, that right isn't it?

I don't know if locite was used when E-flite put it together or not.

I was only planning on replacing the blade grip that broke, and keeping the other one for a spare, just in case. haha Are you suppose to replace both when you replace one??

Thanks for the help guys, I'm frustrated, so put the heli back in the box for awhile.

Are the allen screws stripped, You indicated that the
allen was rounded? I would buy a set of hardened (black) 1.5mm
from your local hardware store preferably ball head style
this pervents stripping if your not on the bolt / screw
strait. You will most likely only get one out thats ok.

Once you get one screw out you can pull it off this will require
some force by hand. Then you can pull the other side out
with the shaft ( make a note of the bearings / spacers so
you can reassemble correctly) If the grip that stayed on the
shaft needs to be replaced cover the shaft with tape and
grip with pliers ( don't damage or mare the shaft ) only hold
tight enough to loosten the retaining screw so you can
remove that blade grip.

You do not have to replace both only the damaged one! I haven't
heard of them being sent from Horizon with lock-tite.

I am sure that E-Flite used thread lock. I would try a true 1.5mm wrench. As for the blade grips. Just be sure your changing a 2 bearing for a 2 bearing or a three bearing for a three bearing. Some of the older kits came with 2 bearing blade grips and the newer ones hav the updated 3 bearing grips. Just be sure your grips are exactly what you bought. they look the saem but the recess in the middle is different.

They do use thread locker, that is why it is so difficult

Also, after you get the first screw and shaft out. Make sure you don't grip the shaft too close the the end where you removed the frist screw as this is hollow now.

I crushed my first one by clamping it in a vise over this area. Use tape over pliers or around the shaft if a vise is used. Probable should use heat on the other screw after you get the first screw and shaft out to soften the thread lock.

They do use thread lock at the factory.

I deformed the other end on my HB CP2 tring to get the second screw out. I got a replacement at LHS for the Blade CP.

They come on there very tight from the factory and therad locked! Try putting on the allen wrench on the screw and heat up the allen wrench to transfer some heat to the screw, carefull not to damage the grips or bearing with too much heat though...

I use the purple thread lock when putting the grips back on. It is easier to break than the red and blue. It has held up fine everytime I use it.

I had to use a dremal tool to slot the bolt as the hex stripped. It was in there real good ,,like with RED Locktite. Not the first time I have heard of this. Most likely NOT your fault.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

Geez!!!

Well I got the darn broke blade grip off, or I should say we got it off. I spent close to 5 hours dinking with it with no success. Finally a buddy came over and we worked on it over a hour. We ended up taking my dremal and cutting the bad one off. After doing that we still could not get the darn screw to come out. So my buddy cut a slot in the screw. Ended up taking a big flat blade screwdriver to twist it out. That puppy was in there to stay forever!!! Got it out put the new one on and test flew it but now it dosn't seem to want to go any higher that 6-8 inches off the floor. That might be the battery needing a charge so not real worried about it.
