Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Having problems with my 90 SE Tail jumping all around with a 611 Gyro.

OK! Where to begin. Running a 611. When I spool it up in heading hold it starts jumping around a lot. I have tried everything from running the sensor from 37% to 20% and it does the same thing. I have checked tail boom supports and tail boom itself and even changed the gyro tape to 2 futaba pieces and still does the same thing. Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions. Should I put the servo up front rather then on the boom? Checked all slop and everything feels good.

is the servo and Gyro in the right direction?you could be running it reversed, that is asuming you have no vibration

Are you using a pcm radio? The next thing I would check is the engine tuning, it needs to be perfectly smooth. Chris

Yes, I am running PCM and and tried to tune the engine as best I could thinking vibration and I got it a little better. Do you think the CF servo tray is touching the case to the servo causing it to jump?

tail jumping

try setting your gain at 68% also check servo direction.

Servo direction can't possibly be the problem of tail jumping around. You'd spin on the ground instantly on attempted takeoff. The 611 will be very stable at 37% gain...so there is something else going on. The kinds of things I've heard make a difference are:

-Tape: is the gyro fastened solidly. If the gyro is flopping around or a bit loose--that's a problem.
-Engine tuning: if the engine burps things jump around for that moment.
-Gain on radio is not gain on gyro: make sure the brain box is registering 37%. My stylus requires that I set the radio at 55% for the brain box to read 37%.
-Stickiness in the tail controls: the gyro can't keep things in line because things aren't moving fast enough. Burned out servo motors are also part of this equation.

There are more things, I'm sure, but that's a start.

How is your gyro amp mounted? Vibration can do strange things to it, if its hard mounted without foam.

If your using a Futaba 9C TX, make sure it is in GY mode (gyro).. Will cause it to do that if your in the wrong mode... Good luck!

the cf servo mount shouldn't be a problem but could be posible,
i have a Raptor 90se and comes statandard with the carbon tail servo mount,no problems here,

this is strait from Jason Krause and this aplys to the 611 as well

The GY601 setup

I have played with the 601 setup for some time now and basically found that the simple setup works the best for me.

1. Leave almost all of the menus at the stock setting (the default settings are in the book) except what is mentioned below.

2. Adjust your tail linkage so that your tail servo limit setting (last menu) is over 100% NOT under. Set the travel equally for both A & B at around 110% to 120%. Setting the limits under 100% can reduce the life of the servo.

3. Setup your radio however you like but make sure the gain on the first screen that shows up after the gyro initializes reads 35-37% MAX this is very important. The 601 will not wag until the gain is very high but if the gain is too high and you stop the tail very abruptly you may damage your heli. High Gain can also reduce the life of the tail servo.

4. 3D or FAI Mode? Try both modes see what you like. FAI mode tends to stop and start yaw/tail movements very precisely and crisp. 3D mode seems to add a little "softening" when the yaw/tail motion is stopped rapidly. 3D mode also can help make the pirouette rate more consistent while moving through fast flight.

I have flown every available gyro made today and the 601 by far has the best performance yet....enjoy it!
