...i own a Hummingbird CP that i bought used off of RR (Futaba 401 gyro) - the pirouette rate was too fast for me so i turned down my Channel 4 ATV from 100% to approx. 70%...
...here's the problem - the last 2-3 flights (Normal Mode) have gone good for the first 1-3 minutes - then the tail cuts loose & it goes into a continual left pirouette right into the ground - could turning down my channel 4 rate from 100% to 70% have caused this?...
First off I would not limit the travel on the tail rotor IF I didn't absolutely have to, as you may need the extra travel to save your heli someday... Do you have a seperate esc on the tail?? Maybe it is cutting out early for over heating or low voltage...
Also does it do thes same thing in HH maybe you have a bad gyro....

...2 Castle ESC's - E-Flite brushless on the main rotor; GWS brushless on the tail rotor...
...the confusing thing is, i actually had 3-4 successful 6-7 min. flights on it before the gremlins set in - it would fall out of the sky after 1-3 minutes...just like you turned the switch off - i guessed it was the TP 700 mah 3s LiPoly's that came with the heli(replaced them with new TP 900 mah 3s Lipoly's) - evidently, i guessed right because the power doesn't turn off in flight any more - now we're doing power on crashes with no tail control!!!.........
...i just thought the lack of tail control might be related to me turning down my channel 4 ATV from 100% to 70%...

IMHO changing the ATV should not have the effect you describe. You are powering up the gyro in HH mode I assume? I would try a new tail motor and see if you still have the problem.

...yes, HH mode...could be - maybe the tail motor is bad...and overheating...

Gary, Set the lvc on the tail motor esc lower than the lvc for the main motor. This way when you run the battery down and hit the lvc, the tail motor won't quit first. Happy Flying, Tom
