Just to help set things straight

The current supply of 02 catalogs is limited to supply on hand. There are no more catalog sets available from air star International, the distributor for VARIO Helicopter here in the USA. Authorized dealers are unable to order any more 02 English catalog sets from air star International to send out to our customers.

Because my website is the most complete VARIO Helicopter database available anywhere with over 2675 different products with pictures, description and current pricing for each item, last time I had the opportunity to stock up on 02 catalogs, I opted not to as to allow the remaining few to be shipped out to other dealers with limited or no web presence who depend on catalogs for sales.

My website is virtually a mirror copy of catalogs #6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and most of the 2002 catalog as well so if you are looking for VARIO Helicopter parts, kits, fuses or scale accessories chances are you are going to find it on my site. There are still a few English version 02 catalogs out there but the supply is running out fast. It is my understanding that East Coast Scale Helicopters received the last batch of catalogs so if you are looking for one you might try getting one from Joe. Josef at VARIO USA is holding on to a few catalogs also so you guys that are trying to get one better call one of these guys quick.

Catalogs

How I wish all these catalogs could be stored on a CD-ROM. Imagine creating a database with links where you can click on a part and ... boom... everything you can think of about that part will be right on your face. Or how about some nice flash or avi with models in action, I bet everyone will love to hear a jet copter's sound. I would crank my stereo so loud I would scare my neighbor’s cat. Or.. Or.. how about the CD-ROM dipped in kerousene. Might as well have the flavor too. Somebody pinch me...........

Just an Idea or two.

Really imagine how easy and inexpensie that would be.

HI FinnDave

I have an EC135 currently undergoing winter refurb and a Kobold. The kobold I fly most weekends. “Vario is expensive” I don’t agree my kobold was £300 comes with glass blades, glass canopy and metal swash. Tell a raptor guy this and he won’t believe you, just thinks you’re pulling his leg. If you add a Rossi to this you get one sweet helicopter.

The only problem I have is with the UK importer

Hi Mac,

As I no longer live in the UK, I am able to deal with the factory direct, excellent service!

I agree that they are good value, my Sky Fox cost less than a Raptor 60, for example, at least that is the case in Europe. In the US, it seems everything is upside-down (I blame the 3D guys ) and they pay so much less than us for their Raptor, X Cells, etc that Vario are seen as an expensive machine.

Funny old world!

FinnDave, do you use any instant messengers? I was chatting with Jarno on the weekend.. it was great. He lived about 600 km or miles from you..

No, sorry, no instant messenger, I have to find SOME free time to build models and even to work. Oh yes, and to remind myself that I am related to the people I see wandering around the house!

Frustrated...

All I can say is that I am very frustrated with Vario helicopters at the moment. Twelve weeks has passed now and I still don’t have all of the parts that I ordered. Heck, at this rate, I will be lucky to be flying my heli by the time the funflys start this spring. Maybe I just chose the wrong ship to build. Maybe someone is telling me to put the Vario down and leave it there. But my patience is at the brink of extinction. Sorry if I am venting, because I am. Someone needed to knock Vario down a notch or two. This just seemed to be the appropriate thread to do so.

Unfortunatly the importer is and always will be at the mercy of what Vario in Germany sends us. It is very aggravating for us also to wait on parts we feel they should have in stock at any given time. Yours is a unique case where we are putting a motor in a heli which Vario does not make any sets for. They call for a Webra 70, and if you had ordered that set which Vario recommends, you would have got all the parts you needed to complete a heli which would not fly. Not good. I believe, like you, that they should do something over there in Germany to clear up this problem with parts and kits.

So the moral of the story.......

Vario mechanics aren't as user customizable as others since you have to order a engine "set" in order to complete your model. If you order a kit without the matching engine set, you will need to be patient.

The manufacturer isn't as big as their U.S. or Asian competitors, so be ready for a little wait when it comes to parts.

I've flown a Xtreme and it was one heckuva experience, it's design is similar to the Caliber using ladder frames and could accomodate different swash modes (eCCPM, standard MechMixing as well as 4 servo 90 degree CCPM). Even on a standard 61WC with the tuned pipe it was quite powerful due to the low weight of the model and I like the way you could actually put the gyro directly underneath the main mast which is the BEST location I've seen for any model.

I could get a crashed ViperS locally for a song, back then it scared me how much it would cost to repair (tail case damage) and maintain, but now that I've read this thread. I might just give the owner a call and give it a whirl now that I'm more confident I won't be crashing with it.

But if I play my cards right, that Xtreme I flew before will soon be on the market again as the owner is afraid to crash it.

I am in my second season of flying. I have a RAP 30 and 50. I am GOING to CRASH. If I buy the kobold then I assume that I will have a wait for parts right? And what would like a normal crash kit cost for the kobold vs the Raptor 60. I have not had to many mishaps because I do not try to fly 3D. I have more of an intrest to fly more scale like. How does the mechanics setup compared to the raptor. Thanks.

I have a Raptor (50) and a Sky Fox (same mechanics as Kobold but better parts) and the Sky Fox is far, far stronger than the Raptor! I have managed to break the frames on my Raptor, granted not an expensive item to replace, but looking at hte Vario, it is hard to see how you could inflict much damage on it without destroying the whole model in the process.

Sadly, finances dictate that my Sky Fox is for sale, so if you, or anyone else, is interested in an almost-new Sky Fox, wiht Rossi .65 engine set, all of which has 10 flights and no hard landings or other abuse, please get in touch!
