| Vario ExperienceFor anyone who wishes to fly heavy 3D, although Vario has quite a few kits that will do that, you need to look closely at the Experience. I have been testing the experience for the past 3 months since its release and all I can say is Kudos to Vario in trying to concur the 3D market as well. I have been flying Robbe and Miniature helicopters in the past but now I own 3 experiences.
I am in the process of releasing the complete review/setup of the experience on my website soon (If I can get one), but to let you all know about a few items that you will definitely like:
• Location of the fuel tank: Underneath the main mast meaning the helicopter from the beginning of the flight to the end will not need trimming and still able to see that tank in flight.
• Location of the Motor: Very easy to do maintenance on the motor. Conventional helicopters have the easy access to the servos and motor usually is setup inside the frames. My past experience, I’ve done more work on the motor then the servos.
• Clutch assembly: Ridiculously easy and efficient. No question the easiest clutch assembly on the market today. Check it out.
• Light: I’ve got mine a little over 8LB. With the OS91 and carbon tuned pipe, it is a rocket even at 8000ft elevation.
• I am working on G10 frames which will drop the weight quite a bit.
• 4 points CCPM: Although it is some what difficult to setup if you haven’t done CCPM, the precision of controls are very high. At 50% swashplate setup, I get 20degress of pitch. To do rolls and flips require very little stick movements.
• Quality and easy of assembly: Nothing short of the usual vario quality of parts. The kit can be assembled in much shorter time then any other helicopters due to its simple design. Sandwich frames with about 5 spacers with enclosed main mast, tank and back belt pulley. That’s all.
Things I found to be difficult or not to my likings was:
• Boom assembly needs to be JBweld glued. My first one I failed. Suggestion measure 10 times, cut once. It was totally my fault. However, the tail/boom assembly is solid and will last forever if completed correctly.
• No matter what helicopter you have, doing hard 3D require solid tail gear box. Vario offers in the next kits to replace the plastic gear box with the metal once.
• I want an YS91 in mine. Vario doesn’t have a conversion or clutch unit that this time but I am hoping that they will in the near future.
Flying characteristics would be hard to describe as we all have different preferences in picking our electronics, and setting up the helicopter for your own flying style. However, IMO there is little comparison to other helicopter. Precision in controls, quietness because of the belt driven trany, weight to power ration, are some of the things I was looking into a helicopter.
Hope this helps. |
